About the Wine
Mogador the Bold - the 2016 release of this famous Spanish red is a more refined this days but it is nonetheless a rich, brash wine. The indigenous local grapes Grenache and Carignan do most of the heavy lifting, with Shiraz and Cab Sauvignon in supporting roles.
Lively red and black fruits, some licorice/ aniseed, and cinnamon spice- this is a brooding, old man of a wine, with a youthful soul.
Spends 18 months in both small and large casks - the oak treatment has been toned down for recent vintages. Clos Mogador now carries the new 'Vi de Finca Qualificada' for great single vineyard wines, the first producer in Spain to receive this qualification.
About Clos Mogador
Clos Mogador is the brainchild and life's work of one man and his family. Rene Barbier was born in nearbyTarragona in 1950, and is a direct descendent of a French line of winemakers whose origins can be traced back to the 1200s. Just as his ancestors had done before him, he has spent his life working in the wine world.
His scope in the wine world and experience stretches from the vineyards to wine marketing and most importantly covers the part where his own wines are made. In 1979, he acquired his first vineyard in Priorat and started to make his first wine in the area: Clos Mogador. A little later on came Nelin, Manyetes and Espectacle del Montsant.
Rene, along with other wine pioneers, was responsible for the emergence of Priorat and surrounds onto the global wine world.
