Description

Previously a source for one of their best Pinot Noirs, the Brown Magpie vineyard in Modewarre yielded such exceptional Chardonnay in 2025 that it earned its first single-site bottling. This Surf Coast vineyard sits on a complex mix of sandy loam and limestone, producing a P58 clone expression that leans into the cooler, maritime influence of the Geelong coast.

To match the quality of the fruit, winemaker Ben Mullen opted for a more structural approach in the cellar. The wine underwent wild fermentation on full solids and 100% malolactic fermentation, followed by eight months in 50% new French oak. Despite this high-spec treatment, the wine maintains its poise, balancing textural richness with a sharp acidity.

The critical reception for this debut has been outstanding. Philip Rich described it as "tightly coiled and persistent" with "complex oyster-shell notes," while Campbell Mattinson highlighted the balance between its creamy texture and the "race of the wine’s acidity." This is a concentrated, sophisticated Chardonnay that marks a great new addition for the Mulline portfolio.

"Tightly coiled and persistent, I can see this unfurling and shining over the next six to 12 months."

"One sip of this wine and I was hooked; it’s excellent."

96+ points - "From a single-vineyard site on the Surf Coast. Matured in 50% new French barriques; 100% mlf. A very bright green gold. A pure-fruited and cool bouquet featuring perfectly ripened white peach, subtle wood-derived vanillin and complex oyster-shell notes. Tightly coiled and persistent, I can see this unfurling and shining over the next six to 12 months." - Philip Rich (Halliday Wine Companion)

94 points - "This wine is characterised by its sweet pear flavours. It’s intense, it’s run also with nectarine, cedar, white peach and lactose characters, but that hit of ripe, juicy pear is the wine’s dominant and delicious force. A subtle herb-infused creaminess to the texture is a welcome touch to the race of the wine’s acidity. One sip of this wine and I was hooked; it’s excellent." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

Mulline Wines

Established in 2018 Mulline Vintners is a double dose of Bens, specifically winemaker Ben Mullen and business brain and wine drinker Ben Hine. Mullen has experience from around the globe, and was most recently winemaker at Clyde Park.

They source fruit from around the Geelong area of Victoria with a focus on Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir, working with growers farming sustainably and organically. All steps of the winemaking operation are done with a major focus on looking after the environment.

Their first releases from the 2019 vintage were met with some acclaim - they are definitely young guns to watch out for.

To prevent embarrassment and to encourage rapping couplets... Mulline rhymes with “divine”.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
