Dominique Portet
Few Australian wineries can claim a heritage like Dominique Portet’s. A ninth-generation winemaker from Bordeaux, Dominique brought centuries of French tradition to the Yarra Valley when he founded his Coldstream estate in 2000. After years of searching for a site that reminded him of home, he found it in the Yarra Valley.
Dominique’s own story runs deep through the world of wine. He grew up at Château Lafite-Rothschild, worked across France’s great regions, and helped pioneer Australia’s cool-climate wine movement through his work at Taltarni and Clover Hill. The Yarra Valley was the perfect place to craft the elegant, structured wines he’d always loved.
Today, his son Ben Portet carries that legacy into a new generation. After working with the likes of Louis Roederer, M. Chapoutier and Château Beychevelle, Ben has refined the house style into wines that balance European poise with Australian energy.
