Nick Spencer: Champion of NSW High Country

We had the pleasure of Nick Spencer's company at our Warehouse Tasting last week, getting an early look at his latest release from the NSW High Country.

Nick has been on a tear since launching his eponymous label in 2017, receiving huge reviews and delivering great value for money across his unique range. Now, just a couple of years in, Nick is considered one of the loudest voices championing the unsung regions of NSW.

"The diversity of sites across NSW High Country means you can literally grow anything there. From cooler sites at altitude producing beautiful examples of varieties like Chardonnay and Grüner Veltliner to warmer, flatter vineyards producing robust reds with great ageing potential. From Gundagai to Tumbarumba, there's a site that will grow any style of fruit you want. For me, it's one of the most exciting regions in the country to be making wine from."

Nick has just launched the 2018 editions of his hugely popular Gundagai Dry Red and Chardonnay, his first Chardonnay since the critically acclaimed 2016. Both wines look in excellent shape.

The Dry Red is a little fresher than the 2017 version. Less Touriga and more Cabernet in the blend resulting in a more structural wine that should mature very well without compromising the early-drinking appeal that Nick wants to see in this cuveé.

The Chardonnay is a dazzling example of cool-climate Chardonnay. Long, precise, effortless in its delivery of white stonefruit flavours and silky smooth texture. It's a ripper. The quality of the Maragle vineyard he worked with for more than a decade at Eden Road is on full display.

"2018 marked my 14th vintage working with Tumbarumba Chardonnay and I can confidently say this is the best!"

- Nick Spencer

Today we are thrilled to offer you the opportunity to be one of the first in the country to sample Nick's latest creations, including some limited stocks of his small batch, mailing-list-only wines, the Silver Label Pinot Gris and Tempranillo, and the final stocks of his cracking Grüner Veltliner.

Nick is one of NSW's most exciting emerging producers. Don't miss the latest chapter in the Nick Spencer story.
