Description

The Trueman Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the finest examples of varietal Cabernet in McLaren Vale.

Hand picked fruit sourced from an elevated vineyard on the Hickinbotham site, this is a, “modern Cabernet that encapsulates all the toil and antiquity of Clarendon.”

It's a powerful wine from winemaker Chris Carpenter built in the mold of upper echelon Cabernet from the Napa Valley but with a distinctly Australian accent.

Something for a special occasion to be sure, and a must have for any serious collector of this noble variety.

Cabernet Sauvignon grows in ideal conditions on the Hickinbotham Vineyard thanks to the combined influence of elevation, aspect, prevailing winds, weather and ancient soils. The ability to consistently retain expressive and fragrant aromas and obtain deep tannin ripeness with concentrated fresh flavours makes Trueman one of the estate's most highly regarded wines.

Violet, blueberry, purple olive and cedar aromas lead to rich blueberry, blackberry and plum flavours. Tannins are long and layered, delivering exceptional depth of flavour and a long, seamless impression that ages very well.

95 points - "Deep, dark, brooding colour with a bouquet of pencil shavings and herby notes including tomato-bush, while the palate is very powerful, massive and solid with tannins that coat the mouth and a long carry. Generous oak. Very full bodied and serious wine, although there is a certain tomato/leaf character, which dissipates with time in the glass. A wine that certainly deserves cellaring." - Ned Goodwin MW (Halliday Wine Companion)

95 points - "100% Cabernet Sauvignon from three different blocks, a combination of 2002 and 1971 plantings. Destemmed and 60% new oak for 15 months. Tightly woven, savoury and an intriguing ferrous quality on the nose. Not what one would initially expect from Cabernet, but the glass immediately draws you in for more. Yes, there are the classic notes of red plum, blackcurrant, bay leaf, black olive and a hint of Dutch liquorish, an ever so slight medicinal menthol note and toasty oak woven throughout. This works so well – cabernet that walks the stylistic tightrope of modern and old school. There’s a lifted minerality to this wine, and it’s both refreshing and heady at the same time. Sinewy long limbed tannins and an acid line that provides finesse and verve on a muscular frame. This is a tightly knitted, yet supple wine. It’s still a baby, decant if you must drink now or watch it blossom with time. A joy." - Shanteh Wale (Wine Pilot)

94 points - "Blueberry, iodine and oyster shell, liquorice, cedar and nougat, some floral notes and dried mint. It’s ripe and sweet fruited, all blackcurrant, boysenberry and blueberry, kind of like a pie with a spicy crust, but also a little ferrous and earthy, with firm ironstone and silty tannin, and a huge volume of flavour, all black olive tapenade and sage and sweet dark fruit on a finish of excellent length. It’s a bold wine, and kind of overt as a youngster, but should turn out well with considerable bottle age." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

Hickinbotham

The Hickinbotham vineyard is somewhat of a legend amongst the Australian winemaking community.

Planted in 1971 in the Clarendon region, fruit from this important site has contributed to some of the most iconic wines in Australia's history, including Penfold's Grange, Eileen Hardy and Clarendon Hills.

Recently, the vineyard has undergone somewhat of a renaissance after being purchased by American wine juggernaut, the Jackson family, and being placed into the winemaking care of Yangarra winemaker Peter Fraser and respected American winemaker, Chris Carpenter.

These are elite premium wines that are made limited quantities and are built to mature gracefully. The ultimate addition to any serious collector's cellar.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
