Young-gun Owen Latta gets the Chardonnay fruit for this wine from a small 4 acre vineyard just 5kms away from Eastern Peake. He helps farm it, along with the vineyard owner Karel Schaefer.

The vines here were planted in 2017, on top of rich volcanic soil. It sees the regular Latta treatment - that is to say hands off, wild ferments, time spent on lees and no filtering.

Soft and gentle yet no shortage of flavour here - hits of lemon, buttery roundness and a little herbaceousness and grippy texture.

Karel Schaefer loves chardonnay, a conversation started back in 2015 about planting some vines to satisfy the thirst. Karel  & Family planted their first vines at Two Mile Hill in 2017, it’s a 4 acre site with 3 different soil types & 3 varieties. The Chardonnay is planted on rich red volcanic soil with a south slightly west facing slope with the clone i10V5, this is the first vintage produced from Two Mile Hill, with exciting 2022s in barrel & a lovely looking crop for 2023.
It’s located 5km from Eastern Peake from which you can still see our vineyard & seems to be one/two weeks earlier than us with flowering & harvest dates. Farming is shared between Karel & us under our guidance. Harvested & whole bunch pressed on 24/03/2021, fermented naturally in 300L hogs heads & 228L barriques, during élevage there is no racking, left on full lees no interference with the lees, the wine always goes through full malo on its own, a small amount of sulphur post malo, racked 3/4/2022 to stainless tank no fining or filtering, bottled 11/10/2022 A small amount of sulphur post malo & pre bottling.

93 Points - "Lemony! Scents of lemon verbena, lemon butter, wheat and white chocolate mint. Flavour profile is lemon myrtle tea, paperbark, mint, eucalyptus lollies and faint green almond. Fine and succulent in the palate. The texture also is a bit shuddery, chops and chews with nice grip though. Very refreshing, unique in a way, very Aussie bush in its character." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

91 Points - "Medium-full yellow with a slight gold tint; the bouquet is more artifact than primary fruit, with buttery shortbread, bread-crust, straw and dried flower heads, a little smoked charcuterie, while the palate is soft and round and a little broad, finishing dry with a gentle phenolic grip. A trace of snuffed-candle. Ample flavour fills the mouth but it's a wide and ample rather than long and refined shape." - Huon Hooke (The Real Review)

97 points & Top 100 Australian Wines - "This is exceptional, reminding me of Ganevat the way it rolls across the palate, ebbing with reductive tension, saline bite and a relaxed, mid-weighted, oxidative flow across the finish, the signature of a judicious, minimal sulfur regime. Chamomile, nougat, cheese cloth, roasted hazelnuts, nectarine and tatami straw. The underlying energy is compelling, whetting the appetite for the next glass and the next. Wonderful wine. Among the most exciting chardonnay tasted in the last 12 months. Drink or hold." ned Goodwin MW (James Suckling)

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
