About the Wine
There is an ocean of Rose coming from the south of France these days, and it is hard to separate the wheat from the chaff at times. This is absolutely a cut above the rest, especially considering price.
The blend of Mourvedre and Grenache works beautifully here, with Grenache lending some vibrant red berries and Mourvedre giving the wine structure, depth and spice. It smells like a very delicate berry coulis, and the palate is dominated by strawberry and watermelon. There's a lovely river stone minerality too, which gives the wine a refreshing finish. Great value here.
About Gilbert et Gaillard
You'll be forgiven if you've never heard of Gilbert and Gaillard before, but they are super famous in France. Francois Gilbert and Philippe Gaillard are a duo of wine critics who began publication in 1989. Philippe was born into a winemaking family, and Francois is a professor in viticulture.
So they've put their money where there mouth is and decided to make some wine. They've made some connections over the years and are able to source fruit from growers and sites which meet their standards of quality. It reflects well in their wines, which are products of passion, dedication and are simply a joy to drink.
