2019 Fleet Macclesfield Chardonnay

Yarra Valley, VIC

Beautifully pure, effortless Chardonnay from the cooler climes of the Upper Yarra Valley.

This has so much going for it. Delicious, is the first thing, but complexity, interest and vitality too... Love it.

About The Wine

Fleet is crafting some really exciting wines from all around southern Victoria, and this is surely one of their finest.

It's Chardonnay from the Cordillera Vineyard in the cooler climes of the Upper Yarra Valley.  Old neutral oak, wild ferment and no additions save for a small amount of sulphur at bottling, this is a natural wine with real class and drive.  'Cool' feeling but still power-packed!

This is a brilliant wine and a great way to explore modern Australian Chardonnay.

About Fleet Wines

Fleet Wines is the culmination of 30 years of combined experience in wine hospitality for husband and wife duo Justin and Lisa Jenkins.

They have approached their label with an eye to crafting contemporary, elegant wines that slip neatly into the modern zeitgeist of Australian food and wine culture.

They source their fruit from Gippsland, Mornington Peninsula and the Yarra Valley with an increasing amount being farmed by them personally. With plenty of great press coming their way in a relatively short time, they are one young Victorian label that you'd do well to keep a close eye on.

From the Producer

The 2019 ‘White Label’ Chardonnay from Macclesfield in the Upper Yarra Valley is a deliciously textural wine that offers an array of orchid fruits; green apple and nashi pear, and top notes of white flowers, and flinty, wet stone character. The ancient red volcanic soils situated in this cooler part of the Yarra Valley give depth, structure and power to this white.

Drink now or cellar for 5-10 years.

‘Bright pale lemon colour, floral notes, nashi pear, flinty core. Textural palate, that builds in the glass, grilled hazelnuts, with fine-boned acidity weaving throughout.'

The Wine Front

"Fleet on the rise and rise and rise.  This has so much going for it. Delicious, is the first thing, but complexity, interest and vitality too. Steely core of minerally acidity, green apple, crackle of lime, slate shot through the whole thing. Mouth-watering and succulent, exceptional length and character. Feels of a cold place and restrained but punching out grape flavour. Love it." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)
