Description

A tribute wine, to love, to youth, and of course to Grenache, the wild grape that sets this region aflame. Organic farming, of course, as it’s so easy to do in this climate, it really is more a matter of; if you’re not farming organically in the dry regions of Spain, then one probably needs to take a hard look at themselves and truly ask, why not?

Partially fermented with Syrah, with small additions of Cabernet and Merlot added to the blend. Sara and Rene are committed moving forward to move on from the French varietals currently planted, and to replant or graft over to indigenous varietals as this project matures and grows.

The vineyard sits on the solitary patch of granitic soils in the region, thus they want to respect this unique plot of land, and help reshape the image of Montsant alongside the growing band of emerging winemaker in the region.

94 Points - Montsant and granite soils and an indie producer doing good things. Hands off winemaking, with intelligence and consideration. All organic. Has this sense of purity and flow, excellent shape you could say, all about those ultra grippy, herb-laced tannins, sour plum spectrum fruit, a plushness though, and just the faintest lick of malt and pickled cherry in that weaving, long finish. Refreshing red wine in a way, has that tannin crispness and acid bright and high. Actually, it's a really beautiful wine. - Mike Bennie (Wine Front)

93 Points - The red 2018 Dido comes from their youngest vineyards, mostly under 30 years old, on granite soils that provide freshness and tension to compensate for the warmth of the southern Montsant. It's a blend of Garnacha, Syrah, Cariñena, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon from five different growers. The Garnacha and Syrah are fermented together with some 30% whole clusters and a long maceration, and the rest of the grapes fermented destemmed with a short maceration, all with indigenous yeasts and mostly in concrete vats. Sixty percent of the volume matured in barrels and foudres of sizes varying from 300 to 4,000 litres, and the rest was kept in concrete for 16 months. It seems like the combination of granite soils and the cooler year has worked wonders for this wine, which showed spectacularly. They say this is what they wanted to achieve with this wine; it is floral, expressive, clean and focused, with perfectly integrated oak, all the varieties complementing each other—not showing any varietal character—and a juicy palate with astonishing balance. This is truly outstanding. This comes at an unbelievable price and should be widely available. 88,357 bottles, 520 magnums and 35 double magnums produced. It was bottled between December 2019 and January 2020. - Luis Gutiérrez (Robert Parker)

It's picked early, and needs to be largely de-stemmed, so the fermentation takes place in two parts. A 15% portion is used as a starter - whole bunches take wild yeast and are covered with sulphur for 8 days. This is then released into the balance of the fruit, de-stemmed and un-sulphured, and away we go. After fermentation in old hogsheads, the wines are long-aged, more than 18 months - a first year in large raw concrete and then a further 6 months or so in large Foudre of 5000 litres.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
