About The Wine
Lo-fi winemaking from the heart of the Loire. Unique for the region, winemakers Joel and Christine do not employ any form of chaptalisation in their wines.
The results are exceptionally pure offerings such as this Cabernet Franc. A much lighter and brighter style than its regional contemporaries. Full of red berry aromas, with a more subtle undertow of the vineyard herbs that so classically are associated with the varietal.
Beautiful balance between fruit ripeness and natural acidity, it’s wonderful to see such a hands-off take on a varietal with so many singularly unique characteristics.
About Domaine des Sablonnettes
Certified biodynamic since 2007, Christine and Joel Menard have been producing wines from their estate for over 20 years, and in the past few years have welcomed their son Jeremy into the business, taking over the winemaking and cellar.
What makes them rare for the Coteaux du Layon AOC is that they refuse to chaptalize their sweet wines and employ all-natural yeast for fermentation. Their aim through all wines is to produce different cuvees that speak of terroir and vintage. All wines remain unfiltered and un-fined and in most cuvees zero sulphur additions are made. As a result, their cuvees have become to be known as wild, eloquent wines that are both lively and energetic.
The uniqueness and singularity they feel in each wine is transmitted to each label, teaming up with artist Denis Huneau to convey the originality of each wine.
