About the Wine

Rich mulberry nose, some sweet oak flavours - this is a great example of a consumer-happy traditional Aussie Cabernet from the very southern part of the Fleurieu Peninsula. Fruit is sourced from a single vineyard site, the Braeside vineyard.

Melted cherry chocolate on the palate, and some lingering tannins for structure and longetivy - this could last a while.

18 months in French oak, a third new.

About Salomon Wines

Two hemispheres. From north to south. The Salomon Estate family story is a winemaking journey unparalleled in the world. Bert Salomon is a seventh-generation descendant of the great Austrian wine dynasty Salomon Undhof, renowned since 1792 for creating the finest Rieslings and Gruner Veltliners from the Kremstal region west of Vienna. In the 1980s he also pioneered the importation of Australian wines to his homeland.

Bert and his wife Gertrud have a love for great red wine and diverse cultures, which brought them to Australia hoping to broaden their horizons and find the perfect place for a vineyard to satisfy their wanderlust. As they searched, they fell in love with the landscape around the Finniss River district on South Australia’s southern Fleurieu Peninsula, and after meticulous terroir-based research settled on a site that became their southern-hemisphere home.

Additional Info

From the Producer

The wine growing area of Finniss River extends along the southeast shoulder of the Adelaide Hills, part of the Fleurieu Peninsula. Braeside vineyard is the most elevated vineyard within our Salomon vineyards in Finniss, approximately 150m above sea level. The soil composition consists of a thin pinkish mix of gravel and glacial sand in the topsoil, and calcareous red and orange clay in the subsoil.

A savoury blackcurrant fruit on the palate. Fine grained tannins establishing its pleasantly earthy style, sure to welcome food. Well integrated oak with firm tannins. Long, nuanced finish. Ageing potential 20 years plus.

Harvest mid of April 2017; this single vineyard wine is fermented in open fermenters for 5 weeks then goes into barrels, aged for 18 months in 300-liter hogsheads. Approx. 35% new oak, exclusively French oak, mostly Taransaud. 98% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Merlot.
