A lithe, refined red.
Bruce Sanderson (Wine Spectator)
About The Wine
A wine from Mounir and Rotem that is probably more suited to a little rest before opening, the Clos de Vougeot, is an exceptional release.
Such depth to this wine, with, like so many of their red releases, a velvety and silken texture that just moves so effortlessly across the palate. So floral, dominated by roses and violets, alongside that Burgundian structure, which makes the wines of the region top of the pyramid stuff.
While perhaps this wine needs a bit more time to showcase its full potential, there is still a lengthy window, opening soon, for it to be enjoyed and relished.
About Lucien Le Moine
Lucien Le Moine is a partnership between husband and wife team of Mounir and Rotem Saouma.
Theirs has been one of the most talked about negociant operations on the modern Cote D'Or. They actively source parcels from the finest Premier and Grand Cru vineyards up and down Burgundy.
Winemaking wise, they have been touted as one of the benchmark 'modernist producers', however, Mounir believes that his long, slow elevages and minimal use of sulphur harken back to the Burgundy production of an era gone by.
On their operation, Jancis Robinson wrote, "An extraordinary micro negociant in Beaune. Very serious quality." These are powerful, complex wines of imposing quality and stature.
