About The Wine
Isole e Olena (two different estates combined by the De Marchi family in the 1950s) is in Chianti tourist central, halfway between Florence and Siena. Stunning location, stunning wines, made in riper modern style that leaves pale, rustic Chiantis in the past.
It is pretty and plush, with ripe bright cherry, and some darker fruit flavours throughout. Satisfyingly rich and lively palate with supple gentle tannin support.
Mostly Sangiovese of course, with some Canaiolo and Shiraz included. All estate-grown, hand-harvested fruit aged into barrels small and large.
Can certainly be enjoyed now with a decant or a glass swoosh.
About Isole e Olena
The De Marchi family, of Piemonte extraction, moved south to Tuscany in the 1950s to purchase two neighbouring wine estates in the hamlets of Isole and Olena - and the joint estate of Isole e Olena was born.
They are located in the heart of the Chianti Classico region, an appellation the De Marchis helped create - they are regarded as true pioneers of the region, and one of the architects of its global success.
Current winemaker Paolo De Marchi entered the business in 1976 and is still the man in charge. His main innovation, the 100% Sangiovese Cepparello, was one of the first great Tuscan wines outside the main appellation regulations, and is one of Italy's great red wines. The estate also produces superb value Chianti Classico, as well as intriguing. Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz.
