Description

The Henty region of Victoria is one of mainland Australia's coldest region. Therefore, you might expect that it would be difficult to sufficiently ripen Cabernet Sauvignon, particularly as parts of it are much further south than areas such as Coonawarra. However, the truth is that it's capable of producing some really concentrated, full-bodied reds without a hint of greenness, as exemplified by Crawford River.

In certain years, the Crawford River Cabernet Sauvignon is a ripe and powerful beast, yet with lashings of elegance and sufficient acid from the cool nights. The fruit leans towards the dark spectrum, with added notes of graphite, cedar and bay leaves. Can be drunk now or will become even more magical after more time in bottle.

There is a beautiful dark fruit spectrum to this wine, starting with blood plum and moving through to liquorice and cassis. The palate offers great complexity, weight and texture. It delivers dark fruits, as seen on the nose, while unravelling to display more complex flavours of dried florals, graphite, cedar and bay leaf. The concentration of the year is evident throughout the wine, with the natural acidity lending definition and finishing with terrific persistence. Diam closure.

91 Points - "This one is rich and full, a wine with dark fruit and prune/nut/raisin notes amongst plum, brined black olive and leafy, minty herbal notes. Palate and perfume match well here. A flowing, lush red with soft tannin, bright acidity and a sense of dried, stewed fruit in tow. A sense of maturity is part of this wine's DNA. It's a bolder, fuller red and gives drinkers a window into generosity from that site. It will titillate many for its impact." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

90 Points - "Deep colour with a brick-red tint in the rim. The bouquet is pungently briary, sappy and with echoes of tamarillo and potting mix, some oak evident, while the palate is tense and edgy with a slight leanness and lack of ripe-fruit sweetness. This is more like an old-style luncheon claret than a Mod Oz cabernet" - Huon Hooke (The Real Review)

Refined and Easy to Drink despite relatively young age

Young cabernet like this has no business being so good.

Fragrant, with earth and spicy notes. Easy to drink with fine tannins and low acidity.

Black fruits, dried herbs, touch mossy but great rib eye compliment.

Crawford River

Crawford River is very much a family operation. The talented Thomson clan have been producing wine from their beautiful home vineyard since 1985.

The Bordeaux varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc thrive on the estate, but it's Riesling that they are most famous for.

They produce a range of styles of varying ages that are outstanding. Many consider them as one of the country's premier producers of the noble variety.

These are wines of purity and elegance. Small-batch, family-owned, traditional winemaking and good, honest farming is at the core of everything Crawford River does.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
