About the Wine
Beautifully judged, silky Barolo that sits comfortably mid-weight, with dried red fruits, pepper and spice abundant. Surprising acidity from a warmer vintage this rocks with minerality.
This cracking estate Barolo is sourced from three cru vineyards from La Morra and Castiglione Falletto, including the famed Cru Villero. The parcels are fermented separately in stainless steel with around 25 days maceration, followed by 8 months of aging in stainless steel. The wine is then aged in large Slavonian oak for 2 years before being finished off in cement vats for a further six months.
Just authentic, unfiltered, great value Barolo.
About Cascina Fontana
Mario Fontana, sixth of his name, is the current custodian of his family's winemaking heritage, along with his wife Luisa. Mario's grandfather, Saverio, has been his biggest influence, instilling a desire to create traditional Barolo that are "natural, true expressions of nostro territorio – our land and our culture.”
The winery can be found in Monforte d'Alba but the impressive vineyard collection includes significant holdings in Castiglione Falletto and La Morra. The focus is on the three classic reds grapes of Le Langhe - Dolcetto, Barbera and Nebbiolo, and the ethos is to reflect and improve upon the great wines of his family's past.
