Shiraz holds a special place in the hearts of Australian wine lovers, as it's the variety that put Australia on the global wine map. As a wine buyer in Australia, Shiraz offers an incredible range of styles and expressions, each reflecting the diverse terroirs across the country.

Styles ranging from powerful, full-bodied wines of the Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale to more refined, medium-bodied expressions coming out of the Canberra region in NSW or the Adelaide Hills. New emerging regions like Heathcote (Victoria) and Great Southern are adding yet more exiting expressions of this incredibly versatile variety.

Beyond Australia New Zealand, Syrah (as it's known there) is gaining recognition, particularly from regions like Hawke’s Bay, which produces wines with a lighter, more elegant profile, often with floral and peppery characteristics.

Last, but of course not least, the Rhône Valley in France has historically set the standard for this grape producing wines of wondeful complexity which are often more structured and savoury than New World counterparts.

This versatility means there’s a Shiraz for every occasion—whether you’re looking for a robust wine to pair with a hearty steak, or a more delicate option to enjoy on its own or with lighter fare.
