93 points & Top 100 Wines of the Year
"Piquepoul is known for its retention of acidity in the hot Mediterranean climate of southern France, and it brings that quality to McLaren Vale, where the Lloyd family regards it as a favourite variety."
- James Halliday (The Weekend Australian)

"The classic match for oysters... Delightful thirst slaking wine."
- Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

Here's a wine that's become quite a hit at the Coriole cellar door apparently.

Piquepoul (Picpoul) can be both a white or red-skinned grape which originates from the Rhone Valley in France. Coriole's is white and it's a heck of a lot of fun to drink. This is a step up in quality from the inaugural vintage, tracking in a great direction.

This is a crisp dry white with a little added interest, if you're a Riesling fan, Semillon fan, or even Gruner Veltliner, you'll be all over this.

It's the perfect match to freshly shucked oysters, as many who have been to the Coriole cellar door will attest.

2023 is our ninth release of Piquepoul - we were the first to grow Piquepoul in Australia.

The nose is spritely and fresh showing fresh lemon, cypress and white nectarine.

The palate is fine and long with fresh acidity providing drive and texture, flavours of citrus blossom, jasmine flower and wet stone leaving the palate craving seafood, natural oysters especially!

WINEMAKER NOTES
We planted Australia’s first piquepoul vineyard in 2010 after falling in love with this delightful southern French variety. It's the last variety that we pick and bring into the winery, and is well suited to our McLaren Vale climate. The simple stainless steel fermentation highlights the wine's delicate texture.

FOOD PAIRING NOTES
Best served with freshly shucked oysters - the ultimate companion to complement Piquepoul’s lively acidity. Or try some lightly grilled fresh caught squid with a squeeze of citrus.

OTHER NOTES
Piquepoul has long been a favourite of the Lloyd Family and was selected as having potential as a new variety for McLaren Vale. We imported the cuttings in 2009 from a nursery in southern France and some years later had our first release in 2015. The variety has proven itself to be well suited to our Mediterranean climate and has found a new home in the Vale. Its fresh acidity and lively texture make it a great accompaniment for seafood, particularly oysters and other shellfish.

Its acidity is coupled with a lemony flavour in this iteration." - James Halliday (The Weekend Australian)

93 points - "The classic match for oysters, though I’d rather drink the wine and leave the oysters to someone else. So much crunch and brine, with green apple, lemon zest and some floral top notes. It’s very stony and dry, but delivers a good amount of flavour, and the finish has some raw almond and grapefruity bite. Delightful thirst slaking wine." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

Coriole

Coriole is a McLaren Vale institution.

It's a winery with two sides. On one hand, they craft classic regional versions of Shiraz and Cabernet which are exemplary. On the other, they have been a trailblazer for emerging varieties (Italian varieties, in particular) in Australia.

Owner and winemaker, Mark Lloyd was one of the first in the country to experiment with Sangiovese and Fiano and has been hugely influential in bringing these varieties into the Australian wine zeitgeist.

Today, Mark's son Duncan has taken over the winemaking duties and his brother Peter as General Manager. The experimentation with emerging varieties continues under their guidance with Nero d'Avola, Negroamaro, and Piquepoul having come into the fold. Coriole never stands still. They are trailblazers who have had a huge impact on the changing face of modern Australian wine.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
