Description

Here's a more 'natural' expression of Shiraz from top-value Barossa/Eden Valley producer, Dominic Torzi.

This wine was named for Dom's mum, Francesca. It's a softer, slurpier version of Barossa Shiraz that she loved to drink.

The grapes were all picked by hand, then fermented in open milk vats with 30% whole cluster included to bolster the amount of spice. Then, once pressed off, it spent time hanging out in barrels that used to be the home of Chardonnay.

It's a juicy, playful version of Barossa Shiraz you can knock a chill into and enjoy any time of the year.

95 Points
"Black fruit, liquorice, violet, grilled meat with plenty of pepper, sage and walnut... and a meaty/spicy/perfumed finish of excellent length. So good."
- Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

A Syrah bearing my mothers name that expresses her softly spoken manners in a style she orchestrated me to vinifi for her via her up bringing of a natural progression of zero sulfite dosage.
Vineyard ~ home vines located in the Angaston Hills at an altitude of 380mt that lays upon a thin soiled limestone ridge. A true vino di tavola

Region: Barossa Valley, SA
Blend: Shiraz (100%)

95 Points - "Black fruit, liquorice, violet, grilled meat with plenty of pepper, sage and walnut. It’s medium-bodied, deep and spicy, fresh and cool blackberry acidity, dark cocoa and dried flowers, almond, fleshy crushed rock tannin, and a meaty/spicy/perfumed finish of excellent length. So good." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

92 Points - "This generous medium bodied pure Syrah comes from quite young vines in Angaston above the Barossa Valley floor. It opens with aromas of dried herbs and sage with a clove influence over the primary red fruits. The palate is medium weight but with plenty of fruit intensity. Loads of dark fruit is delivered with a dry focus accentuated by chalky tannins. Nice wine for drinking now or a few more years if you wish." - Ray Jordan (Wine Pilot)

    Syrah

Deep red in colour. Fruity and savoury, juicy and smooth. Concentrated. Syrah style rather than Shiraz. At it’s best on the day it’s opened.

    Not that impressed

3.7. 2022 vintage. Dark red to purple. Not sure what to make of it. Milk chocolate on the nose. Lifted fruit sweetness but more vanilla and milk chocolate after taste. A very fruit forward wine with not a lot of complexity. Would probably be ok on its own rather than with food. It’s not offensive but it doesn’t do anything for me either.

I enjoyed this wine. It wasn't what I expected and I was pleasantly surprised. Distinctive.

Torzi Matthews

Some years back, noted Australian wine writer Philip White called Domenic Torzi 'Australia's Best Bargain Winemaker'. Today, that statement still could not be more accurate.

The wines from Dom Torzi and Tracy Matthews are some of the best buys in the Barossa Valley and the country. Alongside their excellent classic range of old vine Barossa Shiraz and Eden Valley Riesling, they make a small amount of fascinating Italian variety wines, inspired by their Italian heritage.

At every price point, these wines hugely and consistently overdeliver and are simply a must-buy for any lover of honest, delicious Barossan wines.

"You’d have to put Dom Torzi’s Torzi Matthews wines into the ‘some of best value/most consistent wines in the country’ list, right near the shiny top. A touch of magic. An eye on drinkability. Considered vineyard sources. Gentle overlay of winemaking. He gets it. Really gets it." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
