Pinot Noir is Tom Ward's pet variety.

He believes that there is huge potential for Orange to become one of the country's premier Pinot Noir growing regions and he's doing great work to build that reputation for the region.

The M.A.W, named after his father Mark Andrew Ward, is about lightness, freshness and drinkability. It's the kind of Pinot you can open any night of the week and be totally satisfied with what's in the glass.

A youthful expression that's ready to rip, and it's absolutely delicious.

The MAW is a combination of Pinot Noir clones, which were matured in a combination of small and large French oak barrels. This, along with the region’s natural affinity with the variety, has created a wine with savoury complexity and depth of flavour which will continue to evolve and mature in the bottle.
The Fruit is handpicked and destemmed with and no rollers to
maintain as many whole berries as possible. It is then tipped
into the open fermentors and cold soaked for 3 days before
starting fermentation. It is plunged twice daily and allowed to
ferment fairly quickly. It is pressed at the end of ferment with
some residual sugar from whole berries and transferred to barrel
to finish ferment and Malolactic fermentation. It is sulfured at
the end of ferment and left in barrel for 8 months. The oak
is predominantly Puncheons with 20% new and a mixture of
tonneliers. The wine is kept separate in clones to the end of
ferment and then blended together to best showcase the vintage
and the region.

95 Points - "It’s the crunch of red taut berry skin for me. This is blood plum, strawberries the size of your fist, pomegranate and then this underlying goji berry and hibiscus florals. Don’t underestimate Orange’s cool climate Pinot Noir style, that’s like comparing Gevrey with Volnay or perhaps apples with oranges. Lively acidity, translucent red berries and a slew of peonies and rosella. It’s succulent and slinks its way into your heart at a price unmatched. 92 Points - "Crispy, crunchy, bright and red-fruited define this wine. It’s full of cherries and cranberries. Flint. Wet forest floor. With a red flower element–briar rose, yes. Fresh herbs, peppermint and thyme, caraway seeds. This wine has prevalent freshness, like cool air after the rain. Tart, red-skin acidity and tannins vibrate long through the palate, soothing with a cool aftertaste. It’s all very fresh and not highly complex (no need) but pure in its form and honest. It’s no surprise that the 2022 M.A.W pinot noir is another stellar example of carefully handled fruit and apparent effortless winemaking. Bilberries, cranberries and hibiscus are studded with cloves, Tahitian vanilla bean and dried rose petals. Weathered sandstone and autumn leaves show up on the palate. We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.
