Description

This brilliant Pinot Noir is a blend of fruit from the Stefano Lubiana vineyard in the Derwent Valley and the Lucille Vineyard in the Huon Valley.

It is handcrafted by Marco Lubiana every step of the way: hand-picked, nursed to bottle with minimal influence from oak, bottled on the family estate - it's a wine made with intense consideration every step of the way. The end result is soft and elegant but still filled with structure and spice from the whole bunches used.

After tasting this, you'll be left in no doubt, the next generation of Lubiana winemakers has well and truly arrived.

"It makes for beautiful drinking now but will reward cellaring."
- Dave Brookes (Halliday Wine Companion)

95 points
"It is complex and texturally satisfying, with a long, extended, unfurling finish that is both floral and silty. This is a really good wine; it's exciting and super classy. "
- Erin Larkin (The Wine Advocate)

A blend of fruit from the Stefano Lubiana Vineyard (Derwent Valley) and Lucille Vineyard (Huon Valley) The Derwent portion looked very good at harvest. It came off the Ruscello block which features loam over white/grey gravel. This portion was fermented with 100% whole bunches over 10 days. light foot plunges only. The Huon portion was a mix of clones from all over the vineyard, all destemmed and sorted to discard any berries left split or shrivelled from the rain. The intact fruit was very good. It underwent whole-berry fermentation over 10 days with only a few pumpovers. Barrel treatment of 20-25% new oak, all 228-litre barriques. I was originally going to make two single-terroir wines but the wine tasted better as a blend. After nine months’ maturation I racked and blended the Pinot Noir. This wine has the softness and elegant fruit of the Huon combined with the structure and spice of the Derwent. This approachable wine will drink well young.

95 points - "Two-thirds Huon Valley and one-third Derwent Valley fruit matured in 15% new French oak. Bright ruby with finely detailed aromas of red cherry, wild strawberries, raspberry coulis and some blueberry crunch. Hints of forest floor, gentle exotic spice and amaro herbs, mushroom broth and roast duck off in the distance. Plenty of space and detail on the palate with a lovely fruit purity, a stony presence, bright acidity and compact tannin framework. It makes for beautiful drinking now but will reward cellaring." - Dave Brookes (Halliday Wine Companion)

95 points - "The 2022 Pinot Noir is an intriguing wine. I'll skip straight to the palate, because this is where it really comes alive with poached strawberry and a hint of sumac, sour cherry and clove, dried rosemary, hints of shaved fennel, some blood orange and Pink Lady apples. It is complex and texturally satisfying, with a long, extended, unfurling finish that is both floral and silty. This is a really good wine; it's exciting and super classy. 13% alcohol, sealed under natural cork." - Erin Larkin (The Wine Advocate)

94 points - "A sappy and snappy pinot noir, crisp and bright, red cherry fruited with some pickled cherry elements, faint clove, some smoky paprika, mint, pleasing bitter amaro characters with flavours and scents matching well. Sits at just shy of medium weight, a potency here no doubt, the spice trail lingering and puckering in the palate, flighty tannins shaping things nicely to a fine chew through the finish. It’s a moody pinot noir, one for fireside and cooler places, which has its worth, and for drinkers of the variety there’s depth and complexity in spades. Nicely done." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

    Top Drop!

A really pretty fragrant nose of violet, musk and dandelion 💐 with a miraculous magenta complexion.

On the palette you have pomegranate, cherry, raspberry, cranberry, red pear, goji berry, vanilla and a gentle splash of oak.

This is a razor sharp wine that has been assembled with lots of love and delicate care.

Sitting at 13% ABV, high acidity, medium tannins, light body and a long clean finish it went down perfectly well with a steak pomme frites 🥩🇫🇷

    Lovely Tassie berry Pinot

Raspberry and earthy blackcurrants with a hint of spice. Fresh and drinking well now but no doubt will continue to evolve. Very enjoyable.

Marco Lubiana

Marco Lubiana is the latest of his bloodline to take up winemaking. The Lubianas have made wine in Italy since the 1800s, with Marco's father Steve founding his acclaimed biodynamic wine label, Stefano Lubiana, in Tasmania in 1990.

Marco has a degree in Oenology and Viticulture and biodynamic farming in his blood. His wines are carefully farmed and brought to bottle with a mostly natural methodology. An established and well-known vineyard recently purchased by the Lubianas is the source of the fruit. His first releases are incredibly good. Clearly the grape doesn't fall far from the vine.

Get in early on Marco's wines. As word gets out, these premium Tasmanian cuveés will disappear in no time.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
