"Love the texture and feel of it, house style if you will, though the flavour profile is a little different to prior vintages. Good."
- Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

Another glorious, light-footed Grenache release from Glenn Barry, crafted from fruit grown on a 90-year-old vineyard in the hallowed Blewitt Springs sub-region of McLaren Vale.

The fruit is picked early precisely to maintain the beguiling floral aromatics that represent the modern Grenache stylings of the region. This is manhandled as little as possible on its way to bottle. A small amount of whole bunch in the ferment, only a gentle racking before bottling with a dash of sulphur. What you get is the very essence of McLaren Vale Grenache; brightly fruited, impossibly drinkable and more-ish to the last glass.

If you've never tried the tantalising wines styles from Tonic, or never had a modern style of Grenache that has blown your socks off, there is no better way you could spend under $40 on a bottle of wine.

"It's bright and crunchy throughout and very long in flavour. Good stuff."
- Glenn Barry (Tonic Wines)

The 25 words or less version: The first Tonic Grenache solely from McLaren Vale. That said, it's got all the hallmarks of a Tonic Grenache — Cherry-red, amaro-like sweetness, and fine but firm tannic flow-through. Ding-ding.

The GB version: Believe it or not, this is the first Tonic Grenache solely from McLaren Vale, with fruit from a 90-odd-year-old vineyard in Blewitt Springs, feet firmly in the sand. We made this wine using 20% whole bunch and 80% not. A no-brainer, really.

Tannin is certainly at the forefront of this wine, though kept completely in check with fragrant red fruits, cherries soaked in liqueur and an aromatic dried spice lift. There's an almost hazelnut savoury element to the wine and a fine but firm tannic flow-through. It's bright and crunchy throughout and very long in flavour. Good stuff.

93 points - "Cherry, blackberry, dried herb and mint, some cracked black pepper and spice. Medium-bodied, dry and savoury, brick dust tannin is very appealing, Spanish black olive and dried herb, a little orange zest too, and a firm finish of excellent length. Love the texture and feel of it, house style if you will, though the flavour profile is a little different to prior vintages. Good." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

Top value Grenache from an exciting producer

Laden with blue fruit and a touch of spice, there's enough structure hear to tip it into serious territory while still being fun to drink early. Recommended

    Very nice grenache

Read great things about the Tonic Grenache and didn't disappoint. Nice juicy berries and tanins, would only get better with age

    Banging new wave Grenache

Love this wine from the packaging, the balance of fruit, acid and tannin.

    More tonic please

For a novice wine drinker I have had great pleasure in drinking their wines and especially the Grenache. Matched very well with my stewed pork cheeks for dinner.

Tonic Wines

Tonic Wines is a South Australian-based one-man show by experienced winemaker, Glenn Barry.

Glenn has curated a fine collection of sustainably farmed vineyards from across the Barossa Valley, Clare Valley, McLaren Vale and beyond that provide the basis for his small, handcrafted range.

The Tonic stable spans Grenache, Shiraz, Mataro, Malbec & Chardonnay. These wines are highly expressive and have developed quite a 'cult' following from those in the know. Very small batches made and plenty of demand means you'll find them only available for a limited time.

As Glenn says about his Tonics, "It'll do nothing for your health but plenty for your soul."

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
