Description

The Smith family have been growing Mourvedre on their property for the past 20 years, usually blending it away into some of their other reds. These Mourvedre vines are the oldest in the region for the variety, and so they decided it was finally time to bring it into the spotlight with a single variety bottling.

It's a delicious, complex and enthralling wine for lovers of dark and broody reds.

Filled to the brim with layers and layers of flavour - blueberry, ferrous minerality, bitter cocoa - all coming together with an aura of European flair.

A vibrant, translucent ruby colour. The nose has notes of rose petals, musk and lavender with cranberry, redcurrant, morello cherry, pastrami, sweet spices and terracotta. Though complex, the nose presents as pretty and compact with underlying stoniness, which precisely mimics the first impression in the mouth. There’s small red-berry brightness to
the medium-bodied palate, and gradually those charcuterie and dry-earth notes emerge with iodine and graphite. Musky, petally perfumes waft over terracotta on a pin-point finish with powdery tannins. An understated wine with real intrigue.

94 Points - "Amazing wine. Incredibly distinctive. It’s bloody, meaty, dark-chocolate-y, ripped with blueberry and ironstone and (very) dry and gamey through the finish. One sip/smell of this and you know that you’re in a different world. It’s reductive too; positively. Thanks to all this personality this wine will be polarising but for me, it’s a joyous ride." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

96 Points - "Since planting in 2005, Mourvèdre has evolved with maturing vines to the point it is now ready to go under the Isolation Ridge label in its own right. It’s a variety that I really do like, especially from Frankland River where some very smart examples are starting to emerge. This is certainly one of those which captures the savoury and slightly dried herb characters of this variety with a regional ironstone ferrous influence. It’s medium boded and beautifully weighted with fine sinewy tannins and well managed oak harmonising perfectly. Beautiful." - Ray Jordan (Wine Pilot)

96 Points - "With the ’21 vintage, 2005-planted mourvèdre celebrates its place under the Isolation Ridge label. It is destemmed, fermented in small open pots, pressed quickly and aged in puncheons for 14 months. Quite possibly the finest Australian mourvèdre I’ve tasted. This is something else. Beautifully refined yet has all the fantastic savouriness and meatiness of the variety with ironstone, dried herbs, black plums and sandy, fine tannins. This proves just how magnificent the site is – unique too." - Jane Faulkner (Halliday Wine Companion)

Frankland Estate

Frankland Estate are one of the leading producers in the Frankland River region of WA. Family owned and operated since 1988, their major focus is on certified organically grown fruit that reflects its terroir rather than the hand of the winemaker.

Their cool climate Rieslings are regarded as some of the best in the region and the country with several single vineyard releases that could be a contender for Australia's Best Riesling.

Frankland Estate is cutting a mean wave through the industry and picking up a lot of recognition in the process.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
