Grenache Gods of Aus: Thistledown

Thistledown is a Grenache-obsessed South Australian-based producer founded by two Masters of Wine, Giles Cooke and Fergal Tynan.

This relatively young label has amassed an enviable collection of vineyards across McLaren Vale and the Barossa/Eden Valleys and have honed in on Grenache as the variety to hang their hats on.

Their single vineyard wines are remarkable this year for their purity and finesse. They show unique characteristics, palpable energy and freshness as the very best examples do. But if you're new to their range, you can't go past the entry-level Thorny Devil Old Vine Grenache - a banging bargain that's a great way to get acquainted with their house style.

"An assemblage of talent, superb old-vine sites and remarkable wines that have established a firmament at the top of the grenache totem in this country."
- Ned Goodwin MW (Halliday Wine Companion)

Their full suite has been met with unequivocal praise from the likes of Gary Walsh and Ned Goodwin MW. They are unquestionably at the pinnacle of Grenache producers in Australia. These high-scoring single vineyard wines are made in small batches only so get in quickly for your chance to sample.

They're wines of great finesse, interest, quality, and most importantly - they're downright delicious.
