2018 Unico Zelo Jade & Jasper Fiano
The Unico Zelo owner/winemaking dynamic duo of Brendan and Laura Carter are hugely passionate about Fiano, and they wholeheartedly believe in this variety's suitability to Australia's climate and culture.
So do we, it's a winner.
This comes from the ancient sandy limestone soils on the iconic Ricca Terrs Farms vineyard in the Riverland region of South Australia. Like in previous years it's a wonderfully textural wine, but I reckon this release seems a little more balanced and even clean-cut than the '17.
It looks the goods. All up it's delicious to drink, perfectly built for enjoying with food and great value for money.Read more about 2018 Unico Zelo Jade & Jasper Fiano
2017 Unico Zelo Esoterico Spice Blend
A favourite amongst those who've tracked the Carters from the beginning: the Esoterico is the wild child of the UZ range...
With Brendan and Laura's experience with this style of wine a little richer now, the execution of this skin contact white is on another level.
Supercharged aromatics from the Muscat of Alexandria and the Biano D'Alessano, with a little boost to the mouthfeel from their old friend Fiano. They nailed the recipe this year.
It's orange in colour and cloudy as all get out, it lives up to its esoteric name but with oodles of drinkability. That's what these skinsy whites should all be about.Read more about 2017 Unico Zelo Esoterico Spice Blend
2018 Unico Zelo Magnifique Rosé
This is a fresh face in the UZ range, a brand new Rosé in place of Berry Blossom. And it's a cheeky little number.
This wine was put together by the cellar crew at Unico Zelo. The grapes are Fiano, Nero and Sauvignon Blanc, but that's not really the point.
Rosés are meant to be fun and smashable, that's exactly what this is. That's not to say it doesn't have some class to it, but it is just a good, honest drink, and one that is perfectly suited to our warm, seaside culture.
As the U.Z. team puts it, "It's a wine of sharing, enjoyment, frivolity - and freedom." and we couldn't agree more!Read more about 2018 Unico Zelo Magnifique Rosé
2018 Unico Zelo The River Nero d'Avola
Few wine ventures are as committed to the idea of sustainability as Brendan and Laura from Unico Zelo. Their championing of Italian varieties, particularly Nero d'Avola and Fiano, comes from their belief in their suitability to Australia.
Nero is a particularly hardy grape and it thrives in warm, dry climates. So, here they take the fruit from one of the warmest and driest regions in the country and make a glugable, slurpable red which is ideal quaffing for just about any night of the week.
This is their brightest and freshest feeling Nero to date. It's great drinking at a great price if you're a fan of the variety or just wanting to see what it's all about.Read more about 2018 Unico Zelo The River Nero d'Avola
