2020 Adelina Watervale Riesling

There are a pigeon-pair of Rieslings from the Clare Valley made by Col & Jen at Adelina.

The Watervale Riesling is traditionally a touch sweeter than the Polish Hill River. Col & Jen usually opting to leave a trace of sweetness in the finished wine for more approachability.

The 2020 release is smoking. It's drier than previous years, but the roundness and juiciness here is Clare Valley Riesling at its mouthwatering best.

Balanced on a knife edge, this is a whip-smart Riesling release from the Adelina duo.

2019 Vino Volta Funky & Fearless Chenin Blanc

This is the textural, more classic example of Chenin Blanc from the Vino Volta duo.

Garth Cliff and Kristen McGann are really passionate about Chenin Blanc. Showcasing the varieations created from different vineyards and with different winemaking techniques in and around the Swan Valley region. These are 25+ year old vines in the north of the region, from the Rockets vineyard, planted on sandy loam.

It's made in a fairly textural style, focusing in on the waxy, mouth-filling characters that make Chenin so distinctive as a variety.

It's shapely, pithy and very easy to knock back.

2020 Yokel Peaches

Super value amber wine made with zero additions here from the Swan Valley and the cleaver hands of Joesphine Perry.

Rarely do you see such a serious yet slurpable version of the skin contact wine at this price point. Jo combines the powers of Trebbiano and Chenin Blanc - Trebbiano bringing the waxy palate weight and tannin, Chenin picked for it's racy acidity - it's a killer, crunchy combination.

The fun times labels on these wines belie the quality on offer. The Yokels may look like they are simple, but they are remarkably complex for the dollars asked. A testment to Jo Perry and her winemaking craft - Peaches is one of the best vaalue 'orange' wines in the country right now.

MV Jilly Wines White Wolf of Cumbria Orange

Jared Dixon comes with a White Wolf of Cumbria amber wine this year. It's about time...

He takes Sauvignon Blanc and Gewürztraminer, ferments them together in old barrels on skins, then bottles it unfined and unfiltered.

It's full flavoured, packed with super intense aromatics and succulent fruit, it's a 'training wheels' style of amber, and perfect for those looking to get their first look t what orange or amber wines are all about.

Only a couple of hundred dozen made. It's fresh, it's clean, it's got the wildness dialled up just enough to make it exciting to drink. It's delicious.

2019 Golden Child Beach Bum Rose

James Hamilton is making plenty of waves with his small estate grown Adelaide Hills-based operation. And rightfully so, the wines are stylish, accessible and widely appealing. In short, he's killing it.

Here's his Beach Bum Rosé made from Pinot Noir grown on his dad's block in Kuitpo.

Hand-picked, barrel fermented, set to a dry and savoury styling, this is a flat out delicious rendition of pink wine from the Hills.

It's the perfect pink to tuck in the esky for a day of beach cricket with friends.

2019 Tonic Wines Rose

Tantalising release of Rosé this year from the guys at Tonic Wines. Mataro and Grenache have handpicked from the Clare Valley and Blewitt Springs in McLaren Vale.

The wine spent 5 months in old barrels before being sent to this very stylish bottle and sealed with a cork. It's savoury and structured and thirst crushing. A dead serious Rosé tracking more toward Bandol than Provence in style.

It's a modern Australian Rosé for grown-ups. As Glenn Barry says, "enjoy with fine food and even finer friends."
