2023 Somos Biodynamic Aglianico
The Somos crew have had their Aglianico dialled in for a while now but this 2023 biodynamic release might be Mauricio's best yet.
Grown by the legends at Paxton in McLaren Vale, the fruit was picked in April (yep, it ripens that late), bringing deep flavour without sacrificing freshness. But rather than treat it like a full-throttle southern Italian red, winemaker Mauricio Ruiz Cantu approaches Aglianico more like Pinot Noir. That means a whole-bunch ferment, gentle extraction, and pressing before fermentation finishes to avoid the variety’s typical brute force grip.
What you get is a lifted, spice-drenched wine with floral perfume, crunchy red and black fruits, and a long, fine, sappy structure. It’s still unmistakably Aglianico, but leaner, more elegant, and way more drinkable in its youth.
A high-energy, high-character red that’s both delicious and genuinely different.A delicious modern McLaren Vale red.
2023 Somos Cabernet Franc
The Somos take on Cabernet Franc is just the kind of red we want more of - fragrant, juicy, and refreshingly unpretentious.
Mauricio Ruiz Cantu sourced the fruit from a small site in Willunga, picking in two passes: an early pick to keep the herbaceous lift and crunch, and a later one for roundness and depth. It’s wild fermented, pressed early, then left to chill in old oak for nine months before bottling.
This is Cab Franc without the elbows - no overworked oak, no heavy structure - just bright, lifted red fruits, leafy crunch and a gentle savoury line. Think picnic reds, pasta night, or just a couch and a glass.
Super fresh, super fun, and bang on for the modern Aussie wine drinker.
2023 Somos Garnacha & Amigos
Garnacha & Amigos is exactly what it sounds like - a bunch of joyful, free-spirited friends getting together for a good time. Led by 60% Grenache and joined by a splash of Mencía, Dolcetto, Syrah and Nero d’Avola, this is a super-friendly red that’s made for sharing, chilling down, and pouring generously.
Somos winemaker Mauricio Ruiz Cantu doesn’t mess about when it comes to lo-fi, vibrant blends. All the fruit is grown sustainably, sourced from growers across South Australia who are part of the Sustainable Winegrowing Australia movement. Each grape brings something to the party - Grenache with its juicy red fruit base, Mencía adding perfume and lift, Dolcetto and Nero bringing crunch and Syrah tying it all together.
It's all bright, sloshy red fruits, soft tannins, and a little edge of spice. This is a red for the couch, the park, the BBQ, or wherever life takes you. Pure, unpretentious fun.
If you’re after a go-to weeknight red that doesn’t sacrifice flavour for drinkability, this is your jam. It’s the kind of bottle that disappears in a blink.
2023 Somos Naranjito
Here’s a skin-contact white that’s full of attitude but still ridiculously easy to drink. The 2023 Somos Naranjito is an orange wine made for people who don’t usually like orange wine - or for those who do and want something a little more chill in the glass.
Mostly Verdelho (with a splash of Viognier), the fruit is grown organically and handled with just the right amount of flair by Mauricio Ruiz Cantu. One part is wild-fermented and matured on lees in old oak for a creamy edge; the other part gets the full skin-contact treatment for a massive six months, amping up the texture and spice.
Naranjito is a juicy, gingery orange wine with notes of mandarin peel, orange blossom, soft brioche and that gently grippy finish that makes it so damn good with food. It’s got all the personality you want from an orange wine, minus the hard edges.
Bright, textured and ultra-smashable - this is lo-fi winemaking at its most drinkable.
2023 Somos Biodynamic Vermentino
Vermentino rarely gets this kind of love. But in the hands of the Somos crew - Mauricio Ruiz Cantu and team - it becomes something way more serious (and way more interesting) than your average salty sipper.
This 2023 release comes from Paxton’s biodynamic vineyards in McLaren Vale, where the fruit is hand-harvested and treated with the kind of care usually reserved for Chardonnay royalty. After a short stint on skins, it’s pressed straight into old French oak for wild fermentation and aged on lees for nine months. Occasional bâtonnage adds creaminess without blurring the variety’s natural brightness.
There’s still that classic sea spray vibe we love in Vermentino, but layered with lemon curd, subtle spice and a gently chalky grip that brings the wine firmly into food wine territory. This is a beach wine with brains.
One of the most compelling Aussie Vermentinos going around, full stop.
2024 Somos Fiano & Amigos
Fiano & Amigos is a fresh, textural bargain from Mauricio Cantu at Somos Wines.
The 'Amigos' are a little splash of Verdelho (25%) and Muscat Blanc a Petits Grains (9%) which combined make up about a third of the blend, Fiano with a couple of days skin contact being the other half.
It's made for lazy Sunday sessions by the pool - it's not overly complicated but it is very satisfying and great alternative when you're looking for affordable, smashable whites that won't bust the bank.
"We wanted to make something fresh and fun to enjoy during the summer, but also something that is inherently interesting."
- Mauricio Cantu

Ordering
We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.
Some things to keep in mind:
- Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
- The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
- We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
- We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
- It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
- It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.
We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.
At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!
No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.
We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.
To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.
If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.
If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
