About The Pack
This eclectic mixed pack contains six wines where there were less than 100 dozen made.
These rare gems are made in a wide array of styles with some boundary-pushing winemaking techniques.
The pack runs the full gamut including white, red, pink and orange.
The term 'small-batch winemaking' gets bandied about a bit these days, these wines are the real deal.
2018 Anim Field Blend
This is a unique offering from Max and Siobhan at Anim Wines.
This couple scouts for interesting parcels of fruit from good sites across the South of Tasmania. The wines are made with minimal adjustments and show a playful energy in the mouth.
Here they go to the Clarence House vineyard, where Max helps tend the vines, for a full field blend co-ferment. There are many 'field-blends' out there that come from many different sites. This is the real deal.
They picked a little of each of the varieties that grow at Clarence House, ferment them all together. Bottled it fresh, unfined and unfiltered. A crunchy, jubey, spicy wine emerged.
Pop it in the fridge, a light chill works wonders with the wine.Read more about 2018 Anim Field Blend
2018 JC's Own Freestyle Marsanne
The JC's Own wines are experimental batches of Barossa and Eden Valley wines made as a side project to the classic Messena wines by Jaysen Collins.
This is Marssane taken to the nth degree. "I want to see how far I can push Marsanne, textually." says Jaysen.
So, some skin contact, ageing in old oak barrels and extended lees contact for 12 months has put a good amount of flesh on the bones of this voluptuous variety.
It's rich, it's decadent, but it keeps drinkability at the fore. A big bountiful wine, packaged beautifully. It's a treat.Read more about 2018 JC's Own Freestyle Marsanne
2018 Ari's Natural Wine Co. Orange
This is a fascinating skin-contact wine from NSW from a promising young up and coming natural winemaker, Tony Zafirakos.
This combines Chardonnay from the Southern Highlands and Sauvignon Blanc with from Murrumbateman. The fruit hangs out on skins for three months on skins in barrel before pressing, then sent back to barrel for a sleep before bottling.
It's refreshing, pure and comes with a lovely tactile grippiness in the mouth.
No sulphur, no additions of any kind and absolutely delicious to drink.
Only 35 dozen made.Read more about 2018 Ari's Natural Wine Co. Orange
2018 Ochota Barrels Botanicals of the Basket Range
A unique concept in Australian wine, the Botanicals of the Basket Range takes weird and wonderful to another level.
It starts with a bucket of fruit, then another, until every variety and every region in the Ochota Barrels 2018 vintage is added to egg69 a continuous ferment as one big happy family. Then Taras goes picking.
Within 44 meters of his wine studio, he picks a bunch of different botanicals from his property. Everything from wormwood and sage, to river mint, rosemary, lemon balm and elderflower amongst others. He makes a bouquet garni (basically a giant tea-bag) and dunks it into the witch's brew.
Awesome stuff. Inspired. In a way, this is Taras in a bottle. It is his passions, his fruits, his own patch of the earth, distilled into 588 bottles of wine. It is unique. It is brave and also totally without pretense. The Botanicals is more than a wine, it is an experience.Read more about 2018 Ochota Barrels Botanicals of the Basket Range
2018 Jilly Wines Lone Ranger Touriga
Ever on the hunt for something new, here, Jared Dixon (winemaker behind the Jilly label) takes one of the alternative varieties thriving amongst the diverse viticultural sites in New England.
Here is Jared's take on the classic Portuguese variety Touriga Nacional. It's ripe, luscious and has an explosive floral perfume that jumps from the glass. Jared's soft touch in the winery has balanced this perfectly.
With all the interest around Jared's brand, this unique take on Touriga won't be around for long.Read more about 2018 Jilly Wines Lone Ranger Touriga
2018 Forlorn Hope Songs from Mars Grenache
The wines from the hands of Matthew Rorick have a V8 engine in a sports car frame.
His second foray into the world of Barossa Valley reds has produced a red wine of raw magnetism. This is old vine Grenache from old dry-grown vines - this is the essence of the Barossa Valley mainlined through one of the USA's cult winemaking stars.
There's a deftness to the wine. Deep pools of quintessentially Barossan fruit with an energy that tugs you back to the glass.
Only 60 dozen were made. The asking price is ludicrous. Jump quick if you want to catch this rare bird before it flies the coup.Read more about 2018 Forlorn Hope Songs from Mars Grenache
