About The Pack
This eclectic mixed pack contains six wines where there were only painfully small amounts made.
These rare gems are made in a wide array of styles with some boundary-pushing winemaking techniques.
These are some sensational reds from highly sought-after producers.
The term 'small-batch winemaking' gets bandied about a bit these days, these wines are the real deal.
2018 Joshua Cooper Doug's Vineyard Pinot Noir
Josh Cooper is taking some of regional Victoria's best sustainable and organic/biodynamic vineyards and putting them on show.
This, the Doug's Vineyard Pinot Noir, is a beautiful depiction of the finesse and detail that gentle winemaking can create given the right fruit. A small vineyard in the Macedon Ranges, vines only 20 years old and producing phenomenal fruit, a young winemaker at the top of his game.
The 2018 is an intricate Pinot Noir, one that deserves contemplation and your finest stemware.
Josh has turned out a very fine release this year, it shows fresh strawberries and some whole bunch spice with unber-fine, mineral tannin.
There wasn't much made and it won't be available for long.Read more about 2018 Joshua Cooper Doug's Vineyard Pinot Noir
2017 Arfion Nebbiolo
After years dedicating himself to Pinot Noir, Dave Mackintosh has gotten himself a taste for Nebbiolo.
Good mates with Luke Lambert, Mackitosh has been close on hand witnessing Luke's progression with Nebbiolo from the Yarra. It seems he's caught the bug.
He works closely with grower Lou Primavera (Primavera Vineyard), making Lou's wines and taking some fruit for himself. In the 2017 vintage, Dave picked some of the Nebbiolo from Lou's block to make his own version of the classic Italian variety.
It's a lithe, elegant Nebbiolo, distinctly bright and aromatic and beautifully structured. Only a small amount was made and it will go quickly as Dave's fan base grows each and every year.Read more about 2017 Arfion Nebbiolo
2017 Yangarra Ovitelli Grenache
A Grenache of remarkable purity and energy here from the team at Yangarra.
To create the Ovitelli Grenache a selection of the best fruit from the old Grenache vines that populate the Yangarra vineyard is carefully berry sorted then sent to ceramic egg to ferment naturally and is left to rest on skins for 140 days before being pressed.
This is an ethereal Grenache, a nervy and tightly coiled rendition of the variety, which speaks eloquently of its home.
Toni Patterson MW rated the 2017 vintage a mammoth 97 points, Campbell Mattinson awarded it 95 points - it's a truly beautiful example of McLaren Vale Grenache which is stunning now and will evolve gracefully with time in bottle.Read more about 2017 Yangarra Ovitelli Grenache
2019 Ochota Barrels From The North Mourvedre
The From The North Mourvedre is a dark and smoky, elusive wine.
As with all of the Spring release Ochota Barrels reds, this is a super-fine-boned version of this Rhone variety. Early picked fruit from the Barossa Valley takes on a new look for the region when in the hands of Taras Ochota.
It's built on a spindly scaffolding, it's vibrant and mid-weight yet there's flavour a-plenty. A fresher and airier version of Mourvedre that doesn't skimp on the raw attitude of the variety. It's delicious stuff.
Another string to the already colourful Ochota Barrels bow.Read more about 2019 Ochota Barrels From The North Mourvedre
2018 Vinden Headcase Single Barrel Shiraz #3 Western Slope
The 2018 vintage will go down as one of the great Hunter Valley vintages of the last few decades.
Young Angus Vinden took full advantage of the awesome conditions and put down what is probably his best suite of Shiraz releases to date.
Angus has produced a set of three single block Shiraz from the Somerset vineyard to highlight the particular character of different aspects of his flagship site. One barrel of each was made.
The Western slope was planted back in 1970. It's a richer, more fleshy expression than the other two releases. Full of ripe, delicious red berries and the classic Hunter Valley earth character - this will cellar beautifully for many years to come.Read more about 2018 Vinden Headcase Single Barrel Shiraz #3 Western Slope
2017 Marius Simpatico Shiraz
The Simpatico is sourced from the Shiraz vines on the outer perimeter of the Marius vineyard.
Typically, the Simpatico will drink a little younger than the more hefty Symphony cuvee. It's a slightly racier, more streamlined iteration of Shiraz, with spice and a crunchiness a feature alongside the emphatic density that singles out the Shiraz wines from this unique site.
It's a wine of great character and offers incredible value for money. Only a small amount is available such is the ferverish hunger for Roger Pike's wines. To get a taste of Marius, there is no better place to start.Read more about 2017 Marius Simpatico Shiraz
