About The Pack

This pack is all about discovering some new names.

Here we have six reds from six budding producers you may not have come across yet. It's a bottle of red from each coming in at a cracking price.

Some unusual wine styles, some tried and true. If you're looking to scope some new names for your little black book, there's no better way.

2018 Guthrie The Zephyr Pinot Meunier

Hugh Guthrie is making some very smart wines from the Adelaide Hills.

The cool climate of the Piccadilly Valley in the Adelaide Hills has been a premium Sparkling wine growing region for many years.

Because of that, there is a little Pinot Meunier in the ground for the winemakers who know where to look and who to ask. Hugh has got his hands on a small parcel of fruit which he has turned into a table wine.

It's a crisp, cheeky, light-bodied red wine which loves a chill. A great option for hose looking for an alternative to Pinot Noir.

2016 Freddy Nerks Rosso

Freddy Nerks is the exciting new project of former Alpha Box & Dice owner/winemaker, Justin Lane.

The idea behind the label is to bring lively, youthful expressions of cool climate wines to bottle that massively over-deliver in the value stakes.

Justin focuses his fruit sources around the Kuitpo sub-region of the Hills, where the cool nights and warm days ripen fruit beautiful. With eye-catching packaging and a general sense of fun around the brand, these wines are great new additions to the Adelaide Hills region.

The Rosso is conceived as the ultimate pizza night wine. It's an original blend that combines the floral aromatics and freshness of Pinot Noir, the juicy mouthfeel of Dolcetto and the spicy, plumy lushness of Hills Shiraz. The perfect wine to knock back on a Thursday night.

2017 Year Wines Grenache

One for the Grenache lover with a penchant for the prettier side of the variety.

The fruit from this 60+-year-old vineyard in McLaren Vale has been carefully guided by winemaking husband and wife team Luke Growden and Caleigh Hunt into a lovely, delicate yet intriguing style of Grenache.

With a judicious amount of whole bunch and a focus on fruit rather than oak, this is a vibrant expression that is impossible to stop drinking. As with all of Luke and Caliegh's wines, this was only a tiny production.

It's a bright, perky, delicious example of McLaren Vale Grenache.

2016 Gestalt Tessera Malbec

This funky young label is the brainchild of Craig Turnbull and Anthony Pearce.

Gestalt (meaning an organised whole considered to be greater than the sum of its parts) is about balanced, youthful wines sourced from small organically grown vineyards around South Australia.

This is a full-bodied, red-blooded example of Malbec from old vines in the Clare Valley.

The Gestalt duo have a great way of making big but balanced red wines. This Malbec shows plenty of vibrant dark fruit, a wall of moreish, chewy tannin and a long, sustained finish.

Mike Bennie awarded it 92 points with great praise for the wine's style. If you're looking for a good value, delicious version of Aussie Malbec, this is a great bet.

2017 Heretic Red

Dan Stocker has plenty of experience in Australian wine, but with his new label, Heretic, he's challenging all his own preconceptions on growing and making wine.

He spent some time with Steve Flamsteed at Giant Steps before moving on to larger scale commercial wineries, with Heretic it's about experiment and challenging himself.

This is his wacky variation on a Margaret River Cabernet blend.

It starts with Cabernet Sauvignon, then Dan adds Grenache grapes and a few buckets of Savagnin to get a fresh and frisky red wine that feels something like Cabernet nouveau.

Heresy indeed!

2017 Becker Syrah

An exciting new Hunter Valley project on the rise here under the Becker banner.

James and Meagan Becker have a small plot of land in the Hunter Valley which is currently undergoing organic certification. They are aiming to release single vineyard wines that express the unique qualities of the Hunter Valley with as little intervention as possible. Their first releases look very promising.

These are classy, well built wines that deliver great value for money. The Syrah is slippery and sleek, peppered with spice and a hint of oak.

This is a great new addition to the Hunter Valley wine scene. A top vintage for the Hunter Valley captured perfectly by this young couple.

As always, great value and interesting wines

Love these DD mixed packs. It's always an interesting mix of great value wines. Got the Beckers Syrah open, lovely hunter shiraz, it's got that purple/boysenberry and ferrous minerality. Long and complex.
