About The Pack
A producer with a single-minded varietal focus is a rarity in Australian wine, John Hughes is one of those rarities.
John was born on an old Riesling vineyard in his home of the Clare Valley. To this day he produces some of South Australia's most articulate expressions of Riesling as his sole winemaking mission.
The wines show exquisite purity and elegance and sit comfortably among the best examples that South Australia has to offer.
Try his wonderful 2018 releases in this pack along with his museum release No. 6 from 2013!
2018 Rieslingfreak No.2 Polish Hill River Riesling
The Polish Hill River Riesling comes from a single block in the Polish Hill sub-region of the Clare Valley.
John Hughes thinks this vineyard produces the best fruit of all his vineyard sources.
There's an extra level of intensity here. That classic iron bar of acidity as a spine, the chalky crunch of a green apple, wonderful perfume and glorious purity.
This sits comfortably alongside the best wines from this famous sub-region of the Clare.Read more about 2018 Rieslingfreak No.2 Polish Hill River Riesling
2018 Rieslingfreak No.3 Clare Valley Riesling
The Rieslingfreak No. 3 is John Hughes' outstanding value Clare Valley Riesling.
The Clare Valley is John's home. This wine captures the essence of the region. This comes from John's home vineyard, it's the wine he watches closest from vine to bottle.
Firm, steely but with a generosity that makes this a delicious drink now or primed for decades in the cellar. An absolute bargain and a must have for all lovers of Australian Riesling.Read more about 2018 Rieslingfreak No.3 Clare Valley Riesling
2018 Rieslingfreak No.4 Eden Valley Riesling
This is his Eden Valley Riesling. The fruit is sourced from three vineyards between Eden Valley and Flaxman’s Valley.
It's made in a dry style, looking to capture the sublime characters of these brilliant vineyards. The quality is clear, the expression is pure.

2018 Rieslingfreak No.5 Clare Valley Off-Dry Riesling
There are few off-dry styles of Riesling in Australia that are executed as well as this offering from Riesling fanatic, John Hughes.
The balance in the 2018 release is excellent. From a vintage that John thinks will be an earlier drinking vintage than the tightly wound 2017's the ripeness of the fruit and the laser-like acidity all lent itself perfectly to make this more 'Germanic' expression of the Clare Valley.
This wine style matches perfectly with spicy dishes and has the balance to drink brilliantly on its own.Read more about 2018 Rieslingfreak No.5 Clare Valley Off-Dry Riesling
2013 Rieslingfreak No.6 Museum Release Riesling
If you really want to see South Australian Riesling at its best, you need to see it with a little bottle age.
John Hughes has done the cellaring for you. He picks this wine a little earlier than the rest of his Rieslings looking for tension and purity and something that will evolve with time in bottle.
It's a rare treat to see such an excellent expression of Clare Valley Riesling with some bottle age. This is ready to rip into, or you could cellar it yourself for up to another 10 years.Read more about 2013 Rieslingfreak No.6 Museum Release Riesling
2018 Rieslingfreak No.10 Zenit Riesling
This was the wine originally conceived by John and his wife Belinda as the wine that they would drink on their wedding day.
It's a special wine to them. The best of the best fruit from the vintage from across their Clare and Eden Valley vineyards. They call the Zenit (German for 'Zenith') - a 'super Riesling' of sorts.
There is precious little of this wine available. It will live forever in the cellar yet has the fruit depth and flavour intensity to be enjoyed right now. This is John's finest Riesling and is not to be missed.Read more about 2018 Rieslingfreak No.10 Zenit Riesling
