The Sami-Odi 'Little Wine' has developed quite the cult following over the years.

It's a unique wine, being comprised of fruit from multiple vintages, with the older vintage portions adding depth and weight, the younger contributing lift and fruit vibrancy. Some parcels are picked early for acidity and drive, some picked much later providing that definitive Barossa richness.

It's an intricately constructed wine, winemaker Fraser McKinley blending multiple barrels to find just the right amount of light and shade.

The finished wine shows so much perfume, so much flavour and so much life - it's a beauty and a completely unique look at the Barossa Valley. The 'Little Wine' has become one of those innovative Australian wines you just need in your cellar.

An unvintaged 'assemblage' composed of casks from 2018 (48%), 2017 (29%), 2016 (12%), 2015 (9%) & 2012 (2%). Exclusively sourced from our treasured plots within the Hoffmann's 'Dallwitz' vineyard from vines planted in 1996, 1995, 1960 & the oldest vines planted prior to 1912.

6415 bottles were filled.
Label: Retna Study (Marquis Lewis) - Painted 2018

97 Points - "There were 24 barrels of this wine produced, a smaller release than last year (2018). As always, a blend of vintages, “the struggle is always ripeness and acidity”, offers the ever-thoughtful vigneron Fraser McKinley. Interestingly, there is a component of the Little Wine #7 that finds its way into this wine, “I drained two barrels off of the #7; I've had a fun time with it, but it's also a kind of way of lending more detail, taking the wine more seriously”.It's interesting to listen to the modus operandi of the process to get to this wine, fascinating even, so much detail and consideration goes into it, as does a kind of liberation from the norm of making single wines from single vintages, “I'll find a home for grapes picked to make wine at 11.5% alcohol as I will at 16%, all the elements become part of the wine set I can work with, and it gives me additional freedom across the process when you are blending for a non-vintage wine each year”.“I think it is hugely important that this interests me, how could people be interested if I am not?”, offers McKinley, “in the last few years I have made a conscious effort to drink more of my own wine… it helps me work through how each year will work with blending. Blending used to be a more end of process consideration, but looking at wines from the past, as reference, and now looking at blending as a whole year process, a more constant process of working with wines I have in cellar, it seems to have become a greater focus and labour”.“You can't shake the powerful thumbprint of red clay of Ebenezer, but I am still looking for freshness. For the community in Ebenezer I have no doubt, despite that the world would see my wines as full and rich, that they would think that this is the Diet Coke picnic wine of the sub-region”, joshes McKinley. There's certainly the sense that this wine shows unfettered vitality for a parish known for grunt and muscle. This year sees and exacting blend of 2018 (48%), 2017 (29%), 2016 (12%), 2015 (9%) and 2012 (2%) vintages. This is so good. It's not just the shape of the wine, the inviting perfume, the cornucopia of flavours, but the general sense of compulsion to drink. And drink. Violets, exotic spice, game meat, pepper/dried green herb and dark berries/plums greet from the bouquet. A suppleness up front in the palate, that soothing swish of dark fruit, cool acidity, then light peppery spice weaves its way in and there's the detail… earth, mineral, elemental things, and a shuffle of ultra-fine, high class threads of velour tannin. Elegance might be a good word but the depth of flavour, grunty, red-earth-on-blue-King-Gee-work-shirt character and dripping generosity of true-blue Barossa is peering under the veil of the wine. Hard to find better from the region." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

One of countries best producers, who’s wine has improved year on year leading to this fantastic offering. The bottle and label are cute, but the wine is the main draw.

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
