About the Wine
A few years ago no one in Australia knew what a piquette was. Now it's popping up all over the placed. Interest in piquette has, it seems, piqued. Ba dum tss.
It's all about nose to tail winemaking here. Instead of throwing away grape skins and pressings, they are soaked in water and allowed to re-ferment, resulting in a lighter flavour and lower alcohol. Basically, imagine that beer and wine got together to collaborate. In fact, most examples seem to fit more closely with sour beers than wine.
What you can expect it something perfect for a hot day and great beer replacement for anyone who avoids wheat products. This particular piquette was also dosed with grape juice to give it some extra juice crushability. Gentle blackberry flavours, with some tart cherry and whole lot of fun.
About M & J Becker
Husband and wife duo, Meagan and James Becker are a part of the new guard based in the Hunter Valley, fighting to reshape the region and its rigid preconceptions surrounding the growth and production of wine.
Making their wines with a focus on minimal intervention, their estate vineyard is currently in the process of conversion to certified organics.
After cutting his teeth in California, James returns to Mendocino County once a year to produce small quantities of single-vineyard Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
M&J Becker Wines was realised to focus on Meagan and James passion for the region, and its ability to produce dry–grown and environmentally sustainable wine.
