The Wine Front

"Incredibly intense fortified offering from Faber Vineyard. Quite unbelievably concentrated. Liquid toffee/coffee. Nuts and a whisper of rancio. Big alcohol burn, as is the style. Treacly. If you have any inclination towards Australian fortified muscat, you are quite sure to love drinking this." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

Halliday Wine Companion

"When first tasted 4 years ago I wrote 'The very essence of toffee, grilled nuts, raisins and pain grillee; a lovely rich and unctuous example, with a baked fruit character that is all Swan Valley in character.' Still the same, unctuously sweet and rich, needing a little more rancio cut to lift it into the top rank. 500ml." - James Halliday (Halliday Wine Companion)

From The Producer

From our own vines planted in 2000, the partially raisined fruit is picked between 20-40 Baume depending on the season – up to 80% sugar!

Each vintage is aged seperatley in very old barrels prior to blending annually. This wine is a blend of vintages between 5 to 10 years old. This Muscat displays incredible intensity and lusciousness. The complex mix of flavours include raisin, caramel, honey, dried fig and nutty characters. The palate is immensely rich and ….the flavour lasts for ages.

The wine is a golden tawny colour. The nose combines the raisin and distinctive rose petal notes of semi-dried muscat with a fresh clean spirit lift and the slightly dusty notes from maturation in small oak casks. The palate is intensely sweet and viscous, bursting with raisin, honey, dried fig, candied peel and Xmas pudding flavours. The lusciousness of the wine is balanced by the warm spirit, and the long palate finishes dry and clean leaving intense lingering flavours in one’s mouth. After twelve years of effort, the first release of our Liqueur Muscat. We took cuttings of brown muscat in 1999 and after a year in the nursery we planted the rootlings in spring 2000 for our first crop in late summer 2003. Our muscat has met all our expectations.
