About The Wine

Les Roises is a tiny parcel of sixty year old Chardonnay vines in Olivier Collin's home village of Congy, in the south of Champagne.

The fruit is picked late and ripe but the scintillating Chardonnay acidity is still very much present. Four years on lees, very low dosage, it's all silk and power, layered and concetrated.

It is an intense drinking experience, more akin to tasting great white burgundy, than celebratory bubbles. One of Champagne's great wines, of which only small amounts get to Australia.

About Ulysse Collin

To be mentioned in the same breath as legendary Champagne House Jacques Selosse is a pretty big deal and Ulysse Collin is definitely there.

Describing his 2001 vintage with Anselme Selosse as "one of those encounters that changes your life” Olivier is now well and truly making his own mark on the region and the broader Champagne-drinking world.

These artisanally-crafted Champagnes are very rare and becoming more sought-after with each release.

From The Importer

Base 2016. Disg. Mar 2021. 2016 base with 20% reserve wine (2015), disgorged in March 2021. Les Roises hails from a 0.6-hectare parcel in Congy, a short walk from Collin’s cellar. Planted to massale Chardonnay vines that are now 60 years old (positively ancient by Champagne standards), the clay-rich soils here are deeper, with about 80 to 120 centimetres of topsoil above a bedrock of chalk with black flint. The depth of the soil and the parcel’s southerly exposition already make for a riper, denser wine, and the very low yields (35-40 hl/ha) only bring added concentration.

The result is a powerful Blanc de Blancs style, known for its hedonistic opulence, all balanced by ripe acidity and terrific, mineral freshness. This was disgorged after 48 months on lees (future releases will be 60 months), with only 2.4 grams dosage. “You feel the south here,” says Collin.

“Disgorged in March after 48 months sur lattes, Collin's NV Extra-Brut Blanc de Blancs Les Roises (2016) is one of the high points of a brilliant portfolio. Delivering aromas of orange oil, peach, warm spices, beeswax and white flowers, it's full-bodied, layered and muscular, with all the depth and concentration that these old, virused vines overlooking the village of Congy routinely deliver. Seamless and multidimensional, it's worth a special effort to seek out.” - William Kelley (The Wine Advocate)

"A pronounced, even generous bouquet of spring flowers, fresh fruit, but also candied lemon gushes from the glass with a top-note of minty freshness. On the lively palate, there is racy acidity and a tightly knit, lacy texture. Its clear-cut, linear style prolongs the overall crystalline sensation all the way to a long, airy finish." - Yohan Castaing (Decanter.com)

Delivery times vary considerably with Australia Post and unfortunately there is no Express Delivery Option for wine (because it is fragile and heavy). PLEASE NOTE that we are currently seeing significant delays in the Australia Post delivery network. Strict government health and safety requirements and very high parcel volumes are causing significant backlogs at the main NSW and VIC sorting facilities. Orders are still arriving safe and sound but you may notice slower delivery times and less frequent scanning updates than usual.

I am trying to add more of a wine to my cart but it won’t let me? This means we are running low on stock of that wine.
