2019 Gilbert Pet Nat Rose

92 points
"An ideal park wine for smashing in the coming warmer months." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

Will Gilbert is on a roll with his Pet Nat releases.

It's a difficult and sometimes unpredictable wine style to make, however over the last few years Will has really gotten a handle on it.

This is made from Sangiovese. It's a light, fluffy, watermelon-tasting delight, where the gentle sweetness and frisky fizz is perfectly balanced by the savouriness and natural spice of the Sangiovese grape.

This is the perferct little pink to sit and sip all Summer long.

2019 Mada Blanc

A beautifully balanced Gewürztraminer blend here from Hamish Young. The fruit comes from nearly 40-year-old vines on the Freeman vineyard in the Hilltops region.

Each parcel of Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris and Riesling was fermented separately to give himself complete control of the final blend. The Gewurz hung out on skins for a week-long cold soak to, "draw out florals and really embrace the phenolics before pressing."

This is one of the best-put-together examples of this wine style you are likely to find anywhere in the country.

With balance, zip and grip all in tow, this is a ripping wine.

2019 Swinging Bridge #003 Amber

This is Tom Ward's fifth go round on the experimental #003.

He's refining the style every year, the 2019 sees more smashability and a little less wildness. This is not quite as 'out there' as the earlier releases but the intent to create a textural yet vibrant skin contact white wine remains the same.

This is a blend of Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer, and Reisling. The fruit spent four weeks on skins, all the fruit was co-fermented and then spent three months in old wood prior to bottling. No additions made during the making, the wine bottled totally unfined and unfiltered with just a little sulphur to keep it sturdy.

The Riesling is from a slightly higher altitude vineyard this year and gives the wine a spritely acid backbone which allows the textural sides of the Gewurz and Gris to shine their brightest.

2019 Nick Spencer Gundagai Light Dry Red

A new wine into the Nick Spencer fold from 2019, a Light Dry Red to compliment the Gundagai Dry Red that has been a staple of Nick's range from the beginning.

This is predominantly Pinot Noir blended with Sangiovese and Shiraz from Gundagai. In the same way the Gundagai Dry Red pays homage to the great old regional blends of the 60's and 70's, this wine is a tip of the cap to the old Australian 'Burgundies' made by blending Shiraz and Pinot Noir by the great Maurice O'Shea.

The first release is a belter. It's just on the lighter side of medium bodied, juicy and refreshing through the palate with the savoury finish of Sangiovese to keep it from being overtly sweet.

It's not a wine made for ageing, it's made from smashing while it's young and fresh. Get into it.

2018 Ravensworth Regional Sangiovese

This wine from Bryan Martin has firmly ensconced itself as one of Australia's best value Sangioveses, the 2018 is an absolute ripper!

Bryan's Sangiovese has always had that nice balance between Sangiovese's natural savoury varietal character and sheer drinkability, but the 2018 shows a little lighter on its feet.

Awesome, authentic Sangiovese from one of Canberra's most exciting producers.

If you're looking for a top quality wine to take along to your little local BYO pizza place, that's just what this was made for!

2018 Vinden Headcase Single Barrel Shiraz #3 Western Slope

94 points
"Bold expression of place, with minimal winemaker noise. Excellent." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

The 2018 vintage will go down as one of the great Hunter Valley vintages of the last few decades. Young Angus Vinden took full advantage of the awesome conditions and put down what is probably his best suite of Shiraz releases to date.

Angus has produced a set of three single block Shiraz from the Somerset vineyard to highlight the particular character of different aspects of his flagship site. One barrel of each was made.

The Western slope was planted back in 1970. It's a richer, more fleshy expression than the other two releases. Full of ripe, delicious red berries and the classic Hunter Valley earth character - this will cellar beautifully for many years to come.
