About The Pack

Australian Chardonnay has come a long way over the last decade. From overly oaked caricatures to fine, balanced wines of elegance, it's been a huge turn around.

Here are six scintillating Chardonnays that showcase the excellent quality and value on offer today in Aussie Chardonnay.

It's the perfect way to explore a wide array of styles from some excellent producers.

2021 Brave New Wine Magical Animal Chardonnay

The Magical Animal is the more traditional Chardonnay from Brave New Wine.

The fruit is sourced from a stunning single vineyard in Porongurup, Great Southern. The fruit is pressed straight to one brand new oak barrel and one that had been used before for wild ferment. It's left on full gross lees for 11 months to build texture then bottled with just a whisper of  sulphur before bottling.

The resulting wine is a raucous and wild version of Chardonnay, flush with ripe fruit and toasty oak.

It's the curvaceous Chardonnay with a wild side you've been looking for. It's the kind of Chardonnay that blows your hair back.

Personality +++

2021 Mada Chardonnay

Hamish Young's Mada Chardonnay celebrates the beauty of Tumbarumba.

It's the perfect place to grow streamlined, elegant Chardonnay, with cool nights allowing long ripening for the fruit. As far as Chardonnay goes, it's God's Country.

To maintain the purity and finesse of this release, more than half of the fruit was fermented in concrete lending texture without the flavour influence of too much wood.

This is a blindingly delicious wine from Young, with all aspects coming together in perfect harmony. Delish.

2020 Hoddles Creek Syberia Chardonnay

Syberia is the nickname the D'Anna family has given to the highest and steepest block of Chardonnay on the Hoddles Creek Estate vineyard.

The wine it produces each year is markedly different to the rest of the Hoddles Creek Chardonnays. Syberia is leaner, more focused and perhaps a more precise 'Chablis-eque' style of wine.

It is compact yet powerful, hence Franco allowing it extra time in bottle prior to release. It's a wine which will take the next decade easily in stride.

Get in quick though, this stunner will sell out in no time!

2021 Murdoch Hill Artisan Series The Rocket Chardonnay

"The ferment took off like a rocket," said Michael Downer on the inception of this brilliant cuvee. One vintage, a barrel of Chardonnay went a little bit more wild than the rest, and Downer decided to bottle it separately. And thus, The Rocket was launched.

This is the latest release of this blistering, laser-focused Chardonnay from Murdoch Hill, all sourced from the Piccadilly Valley.

It's superb blend of the piercing and powerful with grapefruit, apple skin and a good minerally edge. Stunning stuff.

2021 Mulline Portarlington Chardonnay

Elegant, pristine Geelong Chardonnay from Mulline Vintners, and specifically the talent of ex-Clyde Park winemaker, Ben Mullen.

The fruit source is the Nurringa Park vineyard in Portarlington out on the cool Bellarine Peninsula. Naturally fermented on full solids then aged in french oak for nine months, but this shows in the length and structure rather than aromatics and flavours.

It is a cool climate, white-fruited, citrus-driven absolutely brilliant Chardonnay.

2021 Xanadu Estate Chardonnay

This Chardonnay gives some serious bang for your buck, built with layers of powerful flavours all held together with supreme elegance.

It's not all about out-and-out power here, as it holds all of the hallmarks of Margaret River Chardonnay: ripe stone fruit and citrus flavours, a zingy hit of acidity, combined with a subtle undertone of saline minerality.

A modern and sophisticated wine that's sure to please all lovers of a full-bodied white wine.

Nice selection. Fair price

I really bought this pack not just due to my obsession with chardonnay but that it came with a Slint by Ochota Barrels (which are getting harder and harder to find). I have to say it was just as or a little better than I expected. A nice range from across southern Australia and a great way to get a taste of quality chardonnay across 4 or 5 different regions. The standout so far (only 4 bottles in) was the Dr Edge, but the Garagista and the TT (who's pinot noir I love) were not far behind. I have also bought more of the Lambert, The Commune I am yet to try and the Slint will be getting a lie down for 3 or 4 years. The price is about what you'd expect if bought separately, but certainly worth it as a package. Would recommend to any chardonnay lover

Great six pack

Love my Chardonnay. Still a few to taste but no disappointment so far. The 2018 Domaine Naturaliste was excellent.
