2019 Cullen Diana Madeline

98 points

"We’ve never had it so good."
Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

The Diana Madeline is one of the true icon wines of Australia.

Produced by one of the most renowned wineries in Margaret River, Diana Madeline represents the pinnacle of Australian viticultural and winemaking prowess and is unsurprisingly one of the top 5 most collectable wines in the country.

This elite blend of Bordeaux varieties is farmed with an almost militant adherence to the principals of biodynamic farming. Owner/winemaker Vanya Cullen is one of the most outspoken advocates of the benefits of these practices in the industry and her results speak for themselves.

If you are a collector of Australia's best Cabernet blends, the Diana Madeline is a wine you need in your cellar.

2016 Domaine Naturaliste Morus Cabernet Sauvignon

97 points

"It is exceptionally long and intense, its balance flawless."
James Halliday (Halliday Wine Companion)

The Morus is the flagship Cabernet Sauvignon cuvee from Domaine Naturaliste.

The oldest and best vineyard source in Bruce Dukes' portfolio, this is grown on some of the most coveted Cabernet vines in Margaret River. Morus australis is the species name for the mulberry tree, mulberry being the key identifying characteristic of this wine, according to the winemaker.

This wine finds itself amongst the most elite of Margaret River Cabernet.

A powerful wine of commanding presence and outstanding quality built for the long haul in the cellar.

2017 Woodlands Margaret Reserve Cabernet Merlot Malbec

The Woodlands Margaret Cabernet Merlot Malbec has been a cellar staple of many fans of Margaret River Bordeaux blends for many years, and the 2017 release is a show-stopper.

It's the mid-tier red that satisfies both those who want quality Cabernet for long-term cellaring or just something excellent to open on the weekend. The fruit is exclusively from the Woodlands estate vineyard in Wilyabrup, Margaret River. It saw 17 months in French oak, roughly half of which was new. It's a powerful, dark and brooding wine with plenty under the hood.

A must-buy proposition for any lover of serious Margaret River Cabernet.

2016 Flowstone Queen of the Earth Cabernet Sauvignon

97 points

"A great Margaret River vintage, and (as always) a great wine..."
James Halliday (Halliday Wine Companion)

Queen of the Earth is the Flowstone flagship micro batch series of Margaret River wines.

The series aims to represent the distinctive qualities of the specific patch of earth that the Flowstone vineyards occupy on the Southern end of Margaret River. They make a Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and a Cabernet. The Cabernet is very, very impressive.

The fruit is picked from an old vine block in the iconic Wilyabrup sub-region of Margaret River. It is then laid to bed in 100% brand new French Oak barrels for over three years. Remarkably, the presence of oak in the wine is barely a whisper, testament to both the quality of the fruit.

This received one of James Halliday's highest scores in the region, picking up an outstanding 97 points; this is in the mix of Margaret River's top Cabernets. This outfit is undoubtably one of the finest up and coming wineries in the West. If you love Margaret River Cabernet, you're welcome...

2019 Nocturne Single-Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

Nocturne is the private label of husband and wife winemaking team Julian and Alana Langworthy.

Julian has received plenty of attention since taking home the 2016 Jimmy Watson Trophy for his work on the Deep Woods Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, but it's this collaboration with Alana which is the winemaking project closest to his heart.

The pair recently obtained a mature Cabernet vineyard in Yallingup, from which they are striving to create elegant, regional Cabernet Sauvignon of premium quality. The 2019 vintage is, according to Julian and Alana, a fantastic medium-bodied expression of this vineyard. The resulting wine is supple and incredibly approachable yet will mature beautifully over the long term.

This wine should be on the hit list for every devotee of Margaret River Cabernet.

2018 Tripe Iscariot Stygian Bloom Cabernet Sauvignon

97 points

"Worked to perfection..."
James Halliday (Halliday Wine Companion)

Here is the first release of a premium reserve Cabernet Sauvignon from Remi Guise.

During his time working with Bruce Dukes at Domaine Naturaliste, Remi has gotten plenty of experience crafting top end, cellar-worthy Cabernet. His own entrant into the upper echelon of the region is wildly successful. It's slinky, packed with dark berry fruit and a wall of epic, moreish tannin, yet it remains supple and easily approachable in its youth also.

The nose is a seductive blend of violets, gum leaves and sweet currants - it's classic Margaret River from a rising young gun. With 97 points from James Halliday, it's a very serious debut.
