About The Pack
The 2017 release of Mac Forbes' Single Vineyard Pinot Noirs might be his most elite release to date.
The perfect season for Mac's fine and detailed expressions of Pinot Noir, this is a tour de force of the Yarra Valley.
This is extremely limited and the only way to get all four of Mac's Single Vineyard releases.
2017 Mac Forbes Coldstream Pinot Noir
This is from his lowest and warmest vineyard in the Yarra. A wine only made in tiny quantities especially in a lower yielding year like 2017.
Mac used 30% whole bunch in the ferment for this wine with the fruit spending 3-4 weeks on skins. The 2017 is showing beautifully now, it's lithe and cool, an articulate Pinot Noir of elegance and quiet power.
True lovers of Yarra Valley Pinot Noir, this is a must try!Read more about 2017 Mac Forbes Coldstream Pinot Noir
2017 Mac Forbes Woori Yallock Pinot Noir
To Mac, Pinot Noir is just a vehicle with which to express the vineyard, not the other way around. As he said to us, "we as Aussie producers tend to get sucked into trying to emulate great French Pinot." Mac believes that "if you don’t care what it ends up as, but rather just expressing that site and the season", you're going to make better, more expressive wines.
Of all the vineyards he works with, this is the one Mac speaks of the most. The wines are powerful, highly structural, and very long lived.
The 2017 vintage maybe the best to date for this distinguished wine, looking every bit the elegant beauty the 'Woori' is known for.
In terms of characterful, story-telling Yarra Valley Pinot Noir, it really doesn't get much better.Read more about 2017 Mac Forbes Woori Yallock Pinot Noir
2017 Mac Forbes Wesburn Pinot Noir
This will be the final release of Wesburn Pinot Noir.
Making the 'Wesi', as Mac calls it, was one of those lightbulb wine moments for this wild-haired Yarra Valley champion.
He says that this is the vineyard that made him see clearly for the first time, that his mission was not to be a great maker of Pinot Noir, but to be a conduit through which a vineyard could tell its story, regardless of the variety planted on it. "Amazingly we see all wines from this site look similar be they red or white." Wesburn just tastes like Wesburn, not just Pinot Noir.
It is always one of his smallest productions each year and, along with the Woori Yallock Pinot Noir, one of the most sort after.Read more about 2017 Mac Forbes Wesburn Pinot Noir
2017 Mac Forbes Yarra Junction Pinot Noir
The Yarra Junction Pinot Noir is the softest and perhaps the most generous of the 2017 suite of single vineyard wines from Mac Forbes.
It feels like the vintage has given it an extra width, not something generally associated with Mac's exquisitely fine-boned Pinot Noir expression.
The perfume is sweet and floral, the mouthfeel is light and devastatingly easy to drink.
This is the crowd pleaser of the 2017's from Mac.Read more about 2017 Mac Forbes Yarra Junction Pinot Noir
