About The Pack
This trio of wonderful wines, a white and two reds, highlights the very best of Sicily's icon producers.
We have the glorious Girolamo Russo Etna Bianco, the natural stylings of COS with their Cerasuolo di Vittoria Classico delle Fontane, and finally one of Passopisciaro's Contrada wines, the 2018 Porcaria.
Might be the best mixed pack we've ever put together....
2021 Girolamo Russo Etna Bianco Nerina
You can't really blame us for getting excited about Etna wines when we keep on seeing wines of this quality and interest - time and time again - coming from those volcanic slopes. This is made predominately from Carricante, with 25% made up from other Sicilian native grapes (Catarratto, Inzolia, Grecanico, Minnella and Coda di Volpe).
There is something magical happening here. It instantly transports you into an Italian fruit orchard, with aromas of ripe oranges and citrus leaves, honey water, ginger and dried flowers. There is a pleasant bucolic vibe here. The palate is rich and ripe, with a plump texture and a lean acid, undercut but a savoury minerality. Oooh, it's good. This is very dolce vita.

Sicily has 23 DOCs but just one DOCG, Cerasuolo di Vittoria, and the three friends who founded COS were the first to bottle a DOCG in Sicilian history.
This rare bird is a delicious but serious blend of Nero d'Avola and Frappato, coming vineyard sites in Fontane at the very south-eastern tip of the island, not far from Malta and Africa.
Initial fermentation is in concrete before being moved to large botti for extra ageing. And it's a wine you can age too as it comes with a good dose of subtle dry tannin, matched by spicy red fruits and a hint of smoke and tobacco.
A smoothly intense and complex Sicilian red made by one of the island's most fascinating producers.

Passopisciaro produces six unique Nerello Mascalese wines, the idea being to showcase the profound differences in the terroir; lava flow, aspect, and altitude, of the various Contrada (single vineyard) that they work with.
Contrada Porcaria is a large old domain at 650m, with topsoil composed of frail sheets of lava the splinter underfoot. This Contrada produces the fullest style of the 6 individual wines. It has body and finesse, while the palate is savoury and structured, with ripe red fruit and a citrus zest character, alongside fine-grained tannins, and bright acidity.
A denser wine, this is one that will reward those with patience to let it unfurl.
