About the Pack
Winemaker Andrew AJ Hoadley is the Willy Wonka of WA wine.
To step through the veil into his whimsical world of Pet Nats, skin-contact whites, freaky, frisky rose and enchanting cool-climate reds is like stepping straight into the Wonka factory where nothing is as it seems.
Paradoxically, for a man who seemingly never takes anything seriously, his wines are remarkably refined and thought-provoking. Though each is delivered with a side-order of wry wit and a wink and a nudge, what seem to be frolicsome, even frivolous wines, are all executed to perfection.
This Mixed Pack is the perfect introduction to one of the most creatively conceived and drop-dead delicious wine labels in the country.
2020 La Violetta Happy Nat
Feeling blue? Then you need some Happy Nat in your life!
La Violetta has become a leading producer of Australian Pet Nat. Every time you turn around it seems like AJ Hoadley has added two or three more to the range.
This magical blend sees Riesling meet Vermentino, with a little Red Traminer. It's designed to put a smile on your dial. All fizzy and fruity and flighty in the glass, it's a clean, creatively conceived Pet Nat that's primed for Summer.

This Riesling is not for the faint of heart or lovers of the 'classical' style of Aussie Rizza.
It's one for the adventurous, the risk takers and the explorers of all things wine. Of the 2012, Max Allen said the Das Sakrileg, "Breaks all the “rules” of modern Australian riesling making, but the result is fantastically complex... A brilliant wine." and guru AJ Hoadley has only refined the style since then.
It is a pumped up, textural style with a lot to say. Oxidatively handled, fermented in oak, even a little malo which is almost unheard of in Australian Riesling.
For those with a love for boundary-pushing wines, this is up there with the best.

In search of a new vineyard growing Gewurztraminer, AJ Hoadley found the perfect spot: a high altitude, cool, east-facing slope in Great Southern.
He got a little more than he bargained for, ending up with a few extra tonnes of Gewurz. No problem, he sourced some Pinot Gris (which he swapped for a case of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale), set the Gewurz to ferment on skins.
A 100% whole bunch component of the Pinot Meunier and Noir gives this a slight blushed colour. The wine is floral, textured, lively and beautifully perfumed. The perfect thing with a plate of fish and chips of a spicy asian curry.

Bring on the warm weather with this delicious little pink wine from La Violetta.
The Posé is a Rosé wine made from whole bunch Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Pinot Meunier. Light and frisky in style, this pixie-esque pink wine is the quintessential Spring-time tipple.
The sweet perfume of Pinot Noir, the flesh and floral aromatics from Gris with the fresh acidity from Meunier in the delicate body of a Rosé wine, prepped for ice bucket and tumblers and sunshine on the deck.

The Ye-Ye Rouge is a wine that changes in makeup each year.
The idea is always to build a medium-bodied, red-fruited red that is built for drinking at speed.
This year sees the blend made up of Pinot Noir and Syrah with a teeny splash of Pinot Meunier. It's a modern interpretation of the old-school Hunter Valley blend of the 1950s and 1960s. And it's done right.
A softness and floral quality from the Pinot Noir meets dark, spicy Syrah and they get on famously.

This wine is a staple in the La Violetta range, and it remains one of our favourites.
As AJ explains, "Up is a suffix commonly found in place names in Western Australia’s south-west, meaning 'place of' in the indigenous Noongar dialect. This wine evokes the ancient granitic soils of its place of origin in the hills around Mount Barker."
This is a not-so-classic cool climate Shiraz here, all about perfume and spice and structure. It's as thought-provoking as it is delicious!
