About The Pack
Born and raised in Dijon, Julien Sunier was mentored by Burgundian luminary Christophe Roumier. The time spent working in Christophe's vineyards and cellar kickstarted his passion for organic viticulture and low-tech winemaking.
After travelling the world pursuing wine work wherever there was surf nearby, Julien eventually settled back in Beaujolais and secured himself some old vine plots in the famous Crus of Fleurie, Morgon and Régnié, transitioned them to organic practices and has now launched his own label to great acclaim.
He makes Gamay with a Burgundian sensibility. The wines have a depth and resonance that is rare for the region. Structure, minerality and fruit intensity are the signature calling cards of his style. They will continue evolve majestically in the cellar for decades to come.
In this pack you can taste the three excellent Cru releases from 2018, all with outstanding reviews from Gary Walsh. There are only a small amount of these wines available in Australia. The pack is limited. Beaujolais enthusiasts will be taken by these wines and should buy and buy quickly.
2018 Julien Sunier Regnie

"Spicy and exotic, blackcurrant, raspberry, dried roses, sweet herbs and earth. Medium-bodied, supple and succulent, juicy raspberry and berry coulis, grilled meat and ‘mineral’ character, but all built around sweetness of fruit and inner perfume. Cherry pip acidity. Tannnin is ripe and dense, with a silty feel as it runs long on the palate. Such a seductive wine. So lovely."

"Matured in used barrels from Chambolle-Musigny's Domaine Roumier, this is the first bottling of Sunier's 2018 Régnié, amounting to some 7,000 bottles out of a total production closer to 20,000. Wafting from the glass with scents of wild berries, potpourri and dark chocolate, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, with powdery structuring tannins, good concentration and a sapid finish. Recently bottled, I suspect it will perform even better with a year in the cellar."

"Pumps out spice and violet, cherry pie, raspberry, and a stony/earthy bass. Medium-bodied, juicy ripe fruit, silky and silty tannin, freeze dried red berries, perfume and ‘mineral’ feel. Acidity is cool and fresh, and there’s a whole lot of perfume, pepper and sweet herb on a long and stony finish. Beautiful."

"Brilliant magenta. A hugely perfumed bouquet evokes ripe red berries, cherry preserves, candied violet and exotic spices, along with a vibrant mineral nuance that expands with air. Stains the palate with sweet, penetrating raspberry, cherry, mulberry and floral pastille flavors that display a suave blend of power and delicacy. The spicy note comes back on an extremely long, floral-dominated finish that's given shape by smooth, harmonious tannins."

"Earthy, a big show of exotic spice, rose oil, cherry essence, pepper over ripe strawberries. Medium-bodied, firm slatey tannin, beef dripping, good cut through of sappy acidity, smoked meats and spice on a long finish. It has a lot to stuff to unpack, as at now, but such a good wine of verity and staunch regionality."

"Deep, vivid ruby. A highly complex bouquet evokes fresh, mineral-tinged dark berries and cherry liqueur, along with suggestions of succulent flowers and baking spices. Silky and focused in the mouth, offering alluringly sweet black raspberry, cherry-cola, spicecake and rose pastille flavors that are underscored by a vein of smoky minerality. Gentle tannins sneak up slowly on the impressively long finish, which shows excellent clarity and leaves behind sappy blue fruit and spice notes."
