About The Pack
The Hunter Valley is Australia's most historic wine producing region.
The Hunter's reputation has been built around producing world-class examples of Semillon and Shiraz - many of which toe a certain line in terms of style.
There are three examples of each variety in this pack, but made in slightly different styles to the norm. It's a fresh look at an old region in one simple pack.
2020 Usher Tinkler Death By Semillon
Lovers of the classic clean and crisp Hunter Valley Semillon may want to keep scrolling, this is a little left of centre.
Here is Usher Tinkler's dangerous alternative expression of the famous Hunter Semillon wine style.
Usher left this on skins for four months before pressing, allowing the juice to pick up a bright golden solour in the glass and adding the dimension of tannin to the racy acidity that Semillon from this region is famous for.
Bottled without any preservatives and without any fining or filtration, this is a Hunter classic reinvented.Read more about 2020 Usher Tinkler Death By Semillon
2020 Harkham Semillon 'Shibuya Meltdown'
Ritchie Harkham's wines are like no other in the Hunter Valley. His minimalist, preservative and additive free approach to winemaking has seen him develop into one of the true cult favourite wineries of the region.
His Shibuya Meltdown' Semillon is a different take on the variety than most in the Hunter Valley. It's a blend of his two best barrels of the vintage. Known for the laser-like acidity of the variety when picked and bottled early, Ritchie's Hunter Semillon is fermented in French oak - a contrarian wine that is reminiscent of some renditions of white Burgundy.
This has flesh on its bones, a fuller-figured white with the trademark pinpoint acidity the variety is famous for. Unique and insanely delicious, this is Hunter Semillon with a facelift.Read more about 2020 Harkham Semillon 'Shibuya Meltdown'
2013 De Iuliis Aged Semillon
Hunter Valley Semillon is truly one of Australia's flagship wine styles, known for its extraordinary ability to develop with bottle age. Here is a wonderful example.
De Iuliis is one of the Hunter's premier modern producers, renowned for producing some of the region's best value wines. No exception here, to see a wine held back for many years and released in its prime.
It's golden, luscious and complex, but still with life and zest. A must-try aged-release wine for any lover of Hunter Valley Semillon.Read more about 2013 De Iuliis Aged Semillon
2020 Vinden Headcase True Faith PF Shiraz
This is Angus Vinden's first shot at a "natural" wine.
Angus has been moving towards a more hands-off style of winemaking for a few years now. This year he has taken the plunge and bottled a portion of his estate-grown Shiraz without any sulphur to act as a preservative.
The finished wine is crunchy, red-fruited, a little wild and will make for perfect drinking as the weather warms up.
There are other wines in the Vinden range that will aged for ten years of more, but this is made to be drunk about 10 mins after it arrives at your door!Read more about 2020 Vinden Headcase True Faith PF Shiraz
2019 M&J Becker Wines Syrah
An exciting new Hunter Valley project on the rise here under the Becker banner.
James and Meagan Becker have a small plot of land in the Hunter Valley which is currently undergoing organic certification. They are aiming to release single vineyard wines that express the unique qualities of the Hunter Valley with as little intervention as possible. Their first releases look very promising.
These are classy, well built wines that deliver great value for money. The Syrah is slippery and sleek, peppered with spice and a hint of oak.
This is a great new addition to the Hunter Valley wine scene. A top vintage for the Hunter Valley captured perfectly by this young couple.Read more about 2019 M&J Becker Wines Syrah
2018 Thomas Wines D.J.V. Shiraz
This wine is an homage to the wines made by the past legends of the Hunter Valley.
A student of the history of the region, Andrew Thomas has crafted this wine in the classic "Hunter River Burgundy" style. Where traditionally these wines were predominantly Shiraz with a small portion of Pinot Noir thrown in for added complexity and aromatic highlights, Thommo has made this with a touch of Semillon verjuice to give a crisp edge to the palate - a natural acidification and a tip of the cap to the red wines of an era gone by.
The effect is just brilliant. A modern spin on a classic style.Read more about 2018 Thomas Wines D.J.V. Shiraz
