About The Pack
Quite simply, this mixed pack has no theme except the level of excitement each wine caused when it arrived in the warehouse recently.
These are the tastiest new things to Drop in Different Drop over the last couple of weeks - a 'highlights package', if you will...
Get at it, some of these wines will be gone in a flash!
2019 Adelina Polish Hill River Riesling
Adelina is on a serious roll - another ripper wine here.
Their home is in the Clare Valley and though their range is beginning to roam a little further afield, the choice of a Riesling site was a no-brainer. This vineyard in the famous Polish Hill River sub-region of the Clare was planted in 2000, with perfect soils for producing first class Riesling.
There are many reasons that PHR is the most famous region in the country for producing Riesling; the consistency and the purity of the fruit not the least of them.
This Riesling sings of its home. It's beautiful drinking, and unbeatable value.Read more about 2019 Adelina Polish Hill River Riesling
2018 Dappled Single Vineyard Les Verges Chardonnay
Shaun Crinion has made quite the name for himself as one of the most exciting Chardonnay producers in the Yarra Valley.
This is his most powerful and high-tensile Chardonnay from the 2018 vintage.
It sees a touch more new oak than the Appelation Chardonnay from the same vintage and also spends more time on lees which Shaun thinks highlights more of the unique qualities derived from the vineyard in the wine.
This is an electric Chardonnay - tight, inwardly concentrated and precise. It is a wine that will develop beautifully in the cellar.Read more about 2018 Dappled Single Vineyard Les Verges Chardonnay
2018 Unico Zelo Esoterico Spice Blend
A favourite amongst those who've tracked the Carters from the beginning: the Esoterico is the wild child of the UZ range...
With Brendan and Laura's experience with this style of wine a little richer now, the execution of this skin contact white is on another level.
Supercharged aromatics from the Muscat of Alexandria and the Bianco D'Alessano, with a little boost to the mouthfeel from their old friend Fiano. They nailed the recipe this year.
It's orange in colour and cloudy as all get out, it lives up to its esoteric name but with oodles of drinkability. That's what these skinsy whites should all be about.Read more about 2018 Unico Zelo Esoterico Spice Blend
2018 Place of Changing Winds Tradition Pinot Noir Syrah
While the Macedon Ranges may be home base for Place of Changing Winds, owner Rob Walters has also tended an organic vineyard in Heathcote for some years.
Here, the two worlds collide - a blend of the ethereal Pinot Noir from the Macedon site and Syrah from Heathcote - it's a sort of 'beauty and the beast' combination that has created a stunning, vibrant red of beguiling charm.
It's soft, slippery and super-smooth to drink. It's a fitting homage to the great red wines of Maurice O'Shea from the 1950s and 1960s.
It's the very model of a modern Australian red wine and great value to boot.Read more about 2018 Place of Changing Winds Tradition Pinot Noir Syrah
2017 Cullen Mangan Vineyard Red Moon
Vanya Cullen was named the 2020 Halliday Winemaker of the Year off the back of an incredible run of consistently outstanding releases.
This Mangan Vineyard red blend is indicative of the kind of quality that Vanya is producing at the moment.
The Mangan vineyard, farmed biodynamically, produces fruit with wonderful balance. The three varieties for this blend, Malbec, Merlot and Petit Verdot, were picked on the 11th February as a full lunar eclipse occurred over the vineyard. Given the significance of the moon in biodynamic farming, that seemed like a good omen at the time.
The finished wine is a bright, polished, purple-fruited delight.Read more about 2017 Cullen Mangan Vineyard Red Moon
