About The Pack
This is a little taste of some of the crazy, inventive and delicious wines being made in the Adelaide Hills at the moment.
It's the hotbed of Australian 'natural' wine. Here are six producers who are absolutely killing it in the Hills.
2017 Vinteloper Park White 500ml
The idea behind this is pretty simple: Drink. Don't think. This is a Gewurz that doesn't look like your average Gewurz.
A bit of skin contact, but of leesy barrel time, then straight into a 500ml stubbie bottle ready for your next picnic. It's cloudy and funky and downright delicious.
This picked up the Trophy for Best Avant Garde Wine at the 2017 Adelaide Hills Wine Show, so the quality is high. But in the end, this was made "For drinking in the Park."
No pretension. No rules. Told you it's simple.Read more about 2017 Vinteloper Park White 500ml
2017 Yetti and the Kokonut Beach Wine Savagnin
The Yetti and the Kokonut wines are as flamboyant as their makers. Winemakers Koen and Dave are on a mission to make wines that are sustainable and insanely delicious.
The boys have nailed this Savagnin from 2017.
A few days on skins lends a light, fluffy grip to the wine while keeping it fresh and vibrant.
This is a funky, textural and highly smashable style of Savagnin that will charm the pants off you.Read more about 2017 Yetti and the Kokonut Beach Wine Savagnin
2017 BK Wines Yellow Wine Blue Skies Flor Savagnin 500ml
This is Savagnin aged under flor in the BK winery in the Adelaide Hills.
It's a nod to the famous wines of Jura in France, using the salty and crunchy characteristics that flor yeast imparts to make something refreshing and downright delicious to drink.
There was only one barrel made. It's an extremely limited release. Enjoy it while you can.Read more about 2017 BK Wines Yellow Wine Blue Skies Flor Savagnin 500ml
2017 The Other Right Dreams & Visions Pinot Noir
This charming, bright Pinot Noir comes from the Arranmore vineyard in the Adelaide Hills.
The fruit is farmed by Candice and Frewin at CRFT, two of the Hills' brightest young vignerons. This immaculate fruit in the hands of Alex Schulkin absolutely sings.
With no additions through the winemaking process, this is unfettered Pinot Noir as fun-loving as it comes.
Only 45 dozen made.Read more about 2017 The Other Right Dreams & Visions Pinot Noir
2017 Basket Range Wines Vineyard Blend
The Vineyard Blend from young pumped-up wine grower/winemaker Shalto Broderick is a unique wine.
Petit Verdot and Merlot forms the base of the wine, Bordeaux varieties do particularly well on the Broderick vineyard, a peculiarity for the Adelaide Hills region.
The final 20% of the blend is made up of the more obscure Georgian variety, Saperavi. Saperavi lends colour an weight to the wine and an exotic twist to the perfume.
Such an interesting and delicious wine here from the young vigneron. One to keep an eye on, no doubt.Read more about 2017 Basket Range Wines Vineyard Blend
