"Barnaby Flanders' same exacting standard in the vineyard and winemaking is applied to this compelling wine. The key difference between this and his other pinots is ageing in concrete on lees for 10 months. The palate is extraordinary; the tannins have a completely different shape, round and giving. It's plush and rich in bright fruit, and lightly spiced. An epic, fabulous drink." - Jane Faulkner (Halliday Wine Companion)

"As far as Australian nebbiolo goes, this is rock ‘n' roll. It has the tar-and-roses thing going on, with chinotto, blood orange zest and a sprinkling of fresh herbs. The palate is the clincher, though, with oak a background player, simply offering the right support. Ribbons of furry tannins are let loose, while the high-toned acidity weaves everything back into respectful submission." - Jane Faulkner (Halliday Wine Companion)

"A grape that I love as much as Grenache. Almost. Not in terms of its pinosity melded with Mediterranean accents, but because of its unbridled ferruginous structure and Neapolitan air. Think Diego Maradona in his prime. Bitter chocolate, cherry pith and amaro riffs. But the defining aspect is the long, thirst-slaking bind of palate-defining, tannic architecture. Australia has not traditionally done this. And here it is! Why were we not planting this 100 years ago?" - Ned Goodwin (Halliday Wine Companion)

"A stellar vintage in these parts: extract and freshness, a holy duopoly. Fragrant, febrile, mid-weighted of feel, despite the concentration and totem of juicy tannins. Spindly, detailed and drenched in tamarind, turmeric and clove, akin to the sensations of a souk. This is like sucking on an orange mulled with sour cherry and exotica. Long and gorgeous. Value! I am pouring another glass, one-handed, as I finish the note." - Ned Goodwin MW (Halliday Wine Companion)

"93/7% cabernet/malbec. Hand-picked fruit, berry sorted and crushed. On skins for 22 days. Matured 14 months in French oak (30% new). Bright, clear colour; this is about as good as one could get from the Yarra Valley in a medium-bodied frame, its purity is wonderful. A drop-dead bargain." - James Halliday (Halliday Wine Companion)

"From one small section (known as the GT block) of a prized vineyard in the Upper Tintara subregion of McLaren Vale, now in the hands of Steve Pannell. 16% whole bunch, wild ferment, 20% new oak in the maturation cycle. This is a most distinctive shiraz in the greater regional context, exuding a powerful mix of black fruits with the smells of Australian bush enveloping the fruits. The palate is dense, not with oak but with rich, savoury licorice and definite earthy, mossy, roasted root vegetable notes in there as well. And with all that, there's still a medium-bodied flow through the mouth. Which should be open in awe at the exit because of how astoundingly good this wine is!" - Tony Love (Halliday Wine Companion)
