About The Pack
The differences in the flavour and style of Chardonnay across the Yarra Valley are quite remarkable and no one harnesses or exploits those difference quite like Steve Flamsteed.
His 2017 Single Vineyard Chardonnays are a masterclass in the interpretation of site. Each of these wines is made in the same way. The differences are wholly derived from where they were grown.
This is the very concept of 'terroir' told by a master through the lens of Chardonnay. It's a thrill to taste them side-by-side. This limited tasting pack is the best way to do it.
2017 Giant Steps Tarraford Vineyard Chardonnay
This Chardonnay comes from the iconic Tarraford vineyard in the Yarra Valley. Being in a sheltered valley the Tarraford vineyard has a distinctly cooler microclimate than its neighbouring sites.
This makes for great Chardonnay production, especially in cooler, longer vintages such as 2017. The 2017 is a top release from this site.
It's a rounded, voluminous Chardonnay with excellent balance and offers more upfront fruit than the structural 2015. This is a must-have for any lover of Yarra Valley Chardonnay.Read more about 2017 Giant Steps Tarraford Vineyard Chardonnay
2017 Giant Steps Wombat Creek Vineyard Chardonnay
Wombat Creek is the newest addition to the Giant Steps repertoire of Single Vineyard Chardonnays. The debut release is simply smoking.
It's a tightly wound, almost nervy style of Chardonnay. Focus is the through line of the 2017 Chardonnay releases from Steve Flamsteed and none show more focus than the Wombat Creek.
This is a blistering wine, one for the lovers of the leaner, energised modern Yarra Valley Chardonnay style. Exquisite work from this master of the Yarra.Read more about 2017 Giant Steps Wombat Creek Vineyard Chardonnay
2017 Giant Steps Applejack Vineyard Chardonnay
The Applejack vineyard has long supplied the fruit for the most sought-after of the Giants Steps Pinot Noirs, now the same may be true for Flamsteed's Chardonnays.
The first release of the wine came from a hunch that there might be something special about the fruit from this block in 2017, it would seem that Flamsteed's hunch was right.
Mike Bennie awarded this 95+ points, the highest of all the exquisite Giant Steps Chardonnays from 2017. Stocks are limited and this won't be around for long.
