"A great vineyard, in a great vintage, from one of my favourite producers."
- Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)
The 'Bricco delle Viole' is possibly the wine that defines G.D. Vajra. It is the most prestigious and sought-after of the great Crus made by Giuseppe Vaira.
This iconic vineyard is the highest in Barolo. It faces south, sitting at between 400 and 480 meters above sea level. This vineyard produces classic austere and refined Nebbiolo that ages incredibly well for decades.
It's the focus and precision in this Cru that sets it apart. Endless sheets of shaley, minerally tannin, a head-spinning bouquet of flowers, almonds and a springtime herb garden in full bloom.
It's one of the great wines of Barolo and remarkable value given the pedigree and stature of this wine in the context of the region.

"It’s an outstanding wine."
- Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)
The 'Ravera' is Giuseppe Vaira's powerhouse Cru offering. If you want a Nebbiolo for the ages, walk this way.
It's a densely packed, monumental wine with a V8 engine under the hood. There are some wines that just need time to reveal their true nature, Ravera is one such beast. This revered vineyard is home to some of the greatest wines in Piemonte. G.D. Vajra's offering is amongst the very best of them.
This is classic Barolo in the best possible sense where power and beauty converge and walk in perfect harmony. It's the kind of wine that will be a cornerstone of your collection for decades to come.

"Such a seductive wine."
- Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)
The 'Coste di Rose' is Giuseppe Vaira's secret weapon.
Perched between two of Barolo's greatest vineyards, Cannubi & Bussia, Coste di Rose produces the kind of Barolo that will make you blush. It's the more ethereal, seductive side of Nebbiolo on show here, rather than one of out and out power. The unique soils on this site are dominated by a Tortonian sandstone that is known for imparting a distinctive rosy perfume and softer, moreish tannin.
Vaira says this is the most approachable of his Crus, though for the paitent, there will be plenty of rewards should you cellar it for a decade or more.

"Charming, yet serious. It’s a really good release."
- Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)
The 'Albe' is Giuseppe Vaira's tip of the cap to the great Piedmontese winemakers of the 1950s and 1960s.
During those times, the general philosophy for many of the winemakers in the region was to combine Nebbiolo from the best Cru vineyards in order to create a more 'complete' wine. Today, single vineyard bottlings have become much more in vogue, however, there's still a place for a truly great blend.
'Albe' is blended from multiple higher elevation Barolo vineyards with exposures that range from south-south-east to south-west. It's a regal, powerful wine that has balance placed at a premium. Looking for a Barolo for the cellar, come back to this in 10-15 years and you'll be glad you made the purchase.
