About The Pack
This excellent three-pack features a trio of great value whites from one of the world's most complex wine regions - Burgundy.
There's a cracking example of Burgundy's 'other' white variety, Aligote - we just love Domaine Oliver Morin's version of this ancient grape.
Of course we had to include a top example of Petit Chablis from the cellars of Domaine Gueguen. Modern richness combining with crunchy oyster-shell minerality here.
And then we have the Domaine de Bellene Coteaux Bourgignons L'Eclos des Abeilles Chardonnay, one of our very favourite value White Burgundies.
It all adds up to a pack of educational joy!
2019 Domaine Olivier Morin Bourgogne Aligote
Olivier Morin is making some world class wines from Chitry, which just happens to have the same Kimmeridgian soil as Chablis. Armed with such a valuable resource, all it took was a little bit of love and a lot of dedication to make a truly stunning Aligote.
Fruit was sourced from organic vineyards and was fermented with indigenous yeast strains before time on fine lees in stainless steel. Being so gentle in the winery has definitely had its benefits - the wine is aromatic, lean and fresh but full of complexity. Fresh apples and lemons come through, with a chalky mineral drive, and a delicate breadth and toastiness. This isn't Poor Man's Chablis - it's a delicious Aligote in its own right.

Sourced off vines around their home village of Prehy, this Petit Chablis is grown on Portlandian limestone soils.
Made to drink in its youth, this wine shows an aromatic nose that is both structured and intense. The palate is fruity, fresh, well-balanced with stone fruits and yellow orchard fruits being the dominant characteristics. It’s quite a broad, modern style of wine, with unexpected subtle buttery toasted notes as well.
While this is a young wine, everything comes together seamlessly, its fresh, fun, and the kind of Chardonnay made for everyday drinking.

There's a lovely spiciness to this value white Burgundy, along with fresh citrus fruit and a chiselled feel.
The Coteaux Bourguignons designation allows the inclusion of grapes from anywhere in Burgundy, and is usually a good sign for the bargain hunter. This toned and refreshing release actually comes from three different villages vineyards, farmed sustainably. It sees no new oak, is unfined, and though 100% malolactic occurred it still seems racy and uplifting.
One of our best French buys of the year.
