About The Pack
Dave Mackintosh's wines have never looked better than his 2017 releases.
It's a vintage that he says is the best he's seen in the 11 years he's spent in the Yarra. This is the best way to sample what he's cooked up in one simple little pack.
2017 Arfion Pinot Noir
The Willowlake vineyard that supplied the fruit for this Pinot is one of the most highly regarded in the Yarra. The cooler conditions, steep south-facing slopes and ancient volcanic red soils result in fruit with detail, elegance, perfume and fine structure.
Dave says that in 2017, "We had time to eat, drink (heaps of beer) and not stress. I think the wines show this relaxed balance."
Half of the fruit was fermented as entirely whole bunches, the other half completely destemmed.
This is a beautifully easy, gentle Pinot that unravels itself in the glass. Charming, intriguing wine with not a hair out of place.Read more about 2017 Arfion Pinot Noir
2017 Arfion Fever
Dave Mackintosh loves to explore with skin contact whites. He's been playing with this idea for a few years, experimenting with his Smokestack Lightning range.
The Fever is a blend of 5 varieties from a single vineyard fermented on skins long and slow for over 50 days then sent to old oak to mature on lees.
The wine goes through natural malo, the fruit dictating how much goes through this process, then it is sent to bottle without cleaning up.
This is a bright and very well made version of 'amber wine'. If you want to explore this wine style, then Dave's offering is a very sophisticated place to start.Read more about 2017 Arfion Fever
2017 Arfion Chardonnay
There is very little winemaking behind this wine. It's fruit from the Full Moon vineyard, the same fruit that goes to the Salo collaboration Chardonnay that Dave makes with Flamsteed, pressed to used barrels, and bottled after 10 months.
The 2017 Arfion Chardonnay is as pure and as elegant as any you will find in the region.
Gorgeous stuff.Read more about 2017 Arfion Chardonnay
