Older vines and barrel fermentation give it the texture and substance to hold their attention.

The fruit comes from Strathmore Vineyard in Geelong’s Moorabool Valley, where the Sauvignon Blanc was planted in 1988. It spends a day on skins before natural fermentation with full solids, then eight months in barrel, including 30% new Austrian oak.

Stone fruit and passionfruit come with a little spice, the oak sitting comfortably behind the fruit. There’s richness through the middle, but it stays fresh and tightly structured, with a long, salty finish at just 12.5% alcohol.

Open it with roast chicken or fish in a buttery sauce. Single-vineyard Sauvignon with proper barrel-fermented texture and plenty of freshness, this is a good reminder of how brilliant this variety can be in the right hands.

96+ points
"The palate is energetic and, despite its mid-palate richness, this is tightly wound, finishing saline and long.
