A dry November set up good flowering and slightly bigger crops. A warm, dry February and March then pushed ripening along, so picking became a careful balancing act between sugar, acid and tannin ripeness.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eCabernet Franc didn't quite get there this year, so it's just 5% of the blend, one of the lowest shares the wine has ever seen. Merlot steps up at 42% alongside 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, with Malbec and a dash of Petit Verdot. Sam reckons the wine is stronger for it.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt's darker-fruited than usual - blackcurrant, plum, cherry and licorice with a cedary spice - but brighter red fruit keeps it fresh. The real story is the tannin: ultra-fine, everywhere and never obvious, with a lovely line of acidity carrying it long.
